HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-20-14Harbor and Shellfish Advisory Board Special meeting Tuesday, May 20`" 2014 at 5:00 p.m. Community room, 4 Fairgrounds Road Members present: Peter Brace (Chair), Chuck Connors, Wendy McCrae, Dr. Boyce, Bill Blount Members Absent: Michael Glowacki, Doug Smith Marine Dept: Natural Resources Dept. Jeff Carlson Others: Lindsay Pykozs (Inquirer Mirror) CALL TO ORDER 5:00 APPROVAL OF AGENDA The motion to approve the agenda for the May 201k HSAB was made by Mr. Connors, Seconded by Dr. Boyce and unanimously approved APPROVAL OF MINUTES Dr. Boyce gave some corrections on spelling. Motion to approve HSAB Minutes from May 0 2014 was made by Ms. McCrae, Seconded Mr. Blount and unanimously approved CHAIRMAN'S REPORT Statement of commitment form: Chairman Peter Brace asked the board members if they had not yet received their Statement of commitment forms and signed them to please do so. Appointed /elected boar update: Mr. Brace is working on a letter to Rep. Tim Madden. MARINE DEPARTMENT REPORT: No MD Report NATURAL RESOURCES REPORT Jeff Carlson: NRD has spawned oysters at the boat house. They have spawned about thirty million. Later this week the NRD will try spawning Native Nantucket oysters. Town biologist position will be advertised in June and hopefully be funded in July. Leah Cabral will remain the person in charge of water quality and will work with the other Biologist who should be starting in July. Mr. Carlson said that HSAB could meet the applicants if it was the boards pleasure. HSAB should pick a board member or two to sit in on the selection process. They have been running the fertilizer classes on Fridays. PUBLIC COMMENT ON MARINE DEPARTMENT / NATURAL RESOURCES REPORT No Public comment OLD BUSINESS Public hearing: Draft revised Nantucket Shellfish Regulation revisions Target date to have this implemented is October, to coincide with the opening of bay scallopings recreational season. Each commercial license holder will be given a copy of the revised regs. NEW BUSINESS Summer meeting schedule — The board voted to have the same summer schedule as years past, one meeting a month during July and August. If an emergency meeting is needed the board will hold one. PUBLIC QUESTIONS AND COMMENT No public comment RECAP and ITEMS FOR NEXT MEETING ADJOURN Motion Made by Ms. McCrae, seconded by Mr. Connors and unanimously approved.
