Make up Days for days lost to below 28 degrees and inclement weather —
A discussion with a group of commercial scallopers regarding make up days was had (Mr.
Smith and Mr. Connors abstained from discussion and voting based on their commercial
scalloping licenses).
Different options were looked at including extending the season into April, allowing
fishing on Saturdays or allowing the fishermen to take and extra box of scallops, bringing
the limit to 6 bushels per license for the remainder of the month of March.
After speaking to all the fishermen who attended and then with Jeff and Tara from the
NRD, there was overwhelming support for the extra box option and not much support for
fishing through April or on Saturdays.
A motion was made to make a recommendation to the BOS to allow for the taking of an
extra box per license, per day for the remainder of this season was made by Ms. McCrae,
seconded by Mr. Glowacki and unanimously approved (Mr. Smith and Mr. Connors
abstained).
