The regular meeting of the County Commissioners called to order
at 1: 31 P.M. by Cha:i'tman Pease.
Present: Pease,Hardy,Glidden,Burgess ,Coffin.
Minutes of the' last meeting and view at Eel Point Road read and
declared approved.'
Letters from Gardner W.Russell,Attorney of C.CoDJlllgham GiffoI-d
concerning John St. discussed. .
On motion duly seconded it was voted : that th. Commissioners .
decline to initiate court action on John Street.
Motion carried. Mr. Hardy wished to be recorded as opposed.
A general discussion on streets and ways followed.
Alexander M.Craig spoke in favor of the Commissioners going to the
Land Court for adjudication of the status of all Beachside Streets and
John Street in particular. '
A letter from Attorney Sanguinetti naming the streets in the report"
previously fi1ed,called Surfside Development viz.; Woodbine,Masquetuck,
Clifford ,Irving,Adams ,Ho1ly,Wannacomet,Prospect,Vernoll,Andrew,Orange,
Louis"Hawthorne,Waver~,Cl~,School.
A letter read from the Nantu ket Gas; & Electric Co. st"teing the
pole on the easement from the Island Service Compal'lY' on Candle street
and Washington street would be moved during the month of May.
The pole on South Beach street is a Hew England Te1.& Tel. Co. Pole.
Voted: that [,he Clerk write the Telephone Company and request the
po1e"on the proposed easment along South Beach Street,be moved.
A letter read from the Nantucket Historical Association giving condi-
tions under which it will grant an easement on its property to widen the
'corner of South Beach Street and Broad Street, copy of proposed deed for
inspection,copy of the minutes of the special meeting of the members of
the Association held to act on granting the easement,copy of the report
referred to in the minutes,
At the suggestion of the Counsel the following' changes should be made
in the conditions presented.
Paragraph 2 the first word in third line should be changed from
insurance to assurance.
The last paragraph should be changed to read.; It further requires
continueing assurance holding Nantucket Historical Axxociation
harmless from cill liability of any kind which may result from the
use of said property as a public way for the term. of the easement.
Wi th the above mentioned changes the Commissioners are ready to sign
the conditions and the Clerk to nmtify the Association to that effect.

The Petition for relocation of Eel Point Road thru the Everett estate
presented to the meeting.
Voted:that .schofield Bros. be notified that Nantucket has a
Planning Board and to present the petition and J1an to
them for their app:J'oval and record.
A new plan of Swain and Cornish streets presented showing reset
bounds and also certain properties encroaching on town ways.
Voted: to "accept the 'p1an.
Voted: to refer plan to the Town Counsel to prodeed to protect the
interest of the town against the encroachments.
The Town Beach a Dionis was discussed as to a road or roads provided Dionis Beach
to reach it. ' ,
Voted: that surveyor Barrett place flags on the proprietors ways
leading to the town Beach and the Commissioners would have
a view.
Mr. Craig asked if the Public Way marker on John St. would be
removed until the question was settled.
The opinion of the Commissioners was that it should saay up.
Mr. Clifford Ryder requested the Commissioners to view his propertjr:_, Lower Pleasant
at the corner of Lower Pleasant St. and Bear St., St.
The Commissioners stated they would arrange for a view and notify
him of the time.
