Public None Concerns (5:16) Coombs — Likes the design; the east and north will be visible. With the exception of the visible length, she has no problems. North elevation right, the windows and French doors should be spread out more. The "C" window panes are too square. Leonardo — Agrees with Ms Coombs about the visibility. Would like a set or two fewer French doors on the north. Camp — Nothing to add. Williams — The west side is all one plane; the one -story piece is only set back one foot. The east elevation, which is visible, is a 53- feet -long unbroken ridge; she can't approve that. North elevation, which is very visible, the "C" window is off center; the left French door is banged against the ell; the dormer is a very large flush dormer; there are too many pairs of French doors. Representing Miroslava Ahern — Reviewed the project and explained context photos supporting the existence of privet in the neighborhood. Matt MaeEaehern, Emeritus Development — The shed was submitted in a location that would screen the pool from North Road. risked what is specifically objectionable about the pool itself. Sande Roberts, Emeritus Development Public Sarah Alger, Sarah F. Alger P.C. for the Kinsleys at 16 Clifton Street — It is wide open and what would be necessary to screen the pool would be a significant change in the character of the neighborhood. Concerns (5:42) Williams — Read the letter of opposition from the Sperrys at 12 Clifton Street. McLaughlin — It is all wide open and everything would be visible. The split rail with wire is the wrong fence; there isn't enough brush to cover it. Agrees with Ms Coombs about the orientation and location of the pool. Coombs — The position of the pool takes up the whole back yard; if the orientation of the pool changed and moved closer to the house, there would be more backyard; the fence would have to be pulled in close to the pool. The pool and house take up almost the entire lot in an area that is open leaving little green space. Agrees about the wire in a 3 -rail fence not being suitable. Camp — Opposed to a pool in this area; it would set a bad precedent. Williams — In the discussion for the house, it was stated that it would be difficult to get a pool approved in this area because of the gyrations necessary to hide it; that would create a different context out of whack with the rest of the street. The fencing is wrong and over done. If it were a spa or dipping pool, it could sit tucked to the house with the fence pulled in. Discussion about how creating an enclave to screen the pool and the fencing to code is alien to the neighborhood. Motion Motion to Hold for revisions. Representing Alexandra and Jennifer French — Reviewed changes made per previous concerns Public None Concerns (5:30) Pohl — Would like to see a small version of the previous submittal side by side. He is pleased with the changes. Williams — The east and south elevation dormer pitches have not been changed; they should be a steep pitch. The trim on the dormers should all match. Coombs — Agrees with what's been said. The dormers look odd they way they are drawn; it's the cottage corners. West elevation, none of the 2nd -floor windows are aligned with the first floor or centered; the little dormer should move over so its edge aligns with the front door. No concerns about the west elevation dormers. Camp — Nothing to add. No concerns about the shed dormers on the west. Motion Leonardo — Would have liked to see an alternate with gable dormers on the front; the flush dormers on the front are not appropriate on a gambrel. Motion Motion to Approve through staff with the west elevation two window dormer moved right to be equidistance from the end as the one on the left; in the addition, dormers pitch to match the main gable dormer 7/12 and trim over those dormers to match trim on main mass dormers; and the south elevation "C" windows to be 3- over-3. Explained why the cupola is necessary Public None Concerns (6:15) Hill- Holdgate — The cupola looks funny; should have wooden louvers and should be shingled. Pohl — The sill below the louvers usually sits on the ridge and the corner boards should be eliminated. McLaughlin — The cupola should be eliminated; it doesn't match the style of the building. Coombs — It should be reduced down in height. Williams — The fence should be a separate application; the air - conditioning units (A /C) should also be part of the hardscaping application. There are no other concerns aside from the cupola. The cupola could be about 6" narrower. Motion Motion to Hold for revisions. The wire railing is inappropriate. Front door is not right. Pohl — He has not had a huge issue with this house and the elevated 111 floor is irrelevant. Glazer — No one is challenging the look; it is starting at 4 feet above grade. Coombs — This is yet another old building being removed from downtown. Circa 1930s. Cited two occasions in which historic structures have been approved for demolition. If it is demolished, we need to detail the flood -plain requirements. Williams — With changes we've already allowed, nearly the whole damned building is being demolished anyway. The chimney owl needs to be deleted. The porch wall needs to be taller so the columns look smaller. The roof walk should not be skirted. Pohl — The stone chimney looks to have a corbelled brick cap; should be a plain cap. We saw this earlier, the rake overhangs on the smaller dormers need to be reduced. Raising the parapet wall will help with the flared column. Camp — She would like a small flare at the bottom of the posts. The skirt on the roof walk pulls the house down. Concerns (9:14) Staff — Read previous concerns from Feb. 10. Williams — East elevation, need a post in the center of the hipped roof. "It" is going the wrong direction. The roof hatch should be on the side away from the road. Because the structures are so separated and individual, she thinks there is a way to get around the secondary dwelling hierarchy. The roof walk should be natural to weather. Glazer — She does not remember ever seeing photos on the Von Summer's house. The hatch should be on the south side. No other concerns. Pohl — Very happy with the changes. Motion Motion to Approve through staff with the roof walk natural to weather, three posts on the south elevation hipped roof, and the hatch shown on the right side of the south elevation, the findings for approval of the 25- foot second structure is the substantial change in grade and the two structures don't relate architecturally.
