Proposed 2015 Budget — Discussion ADJOURNMENT 14 UL F'K MINUTES Nantucket Land Bank Commission Special Meeting of December 8, 2014 Land Bank Meeting Room, 22 Broad Street Nantucket, Massachusetts CALL TO ORDER: 1:40 P.M. PRESENT: Bartlett, Gardner, Paterson, Reinhard, Stackpole. STAFF PRESENT: Eric Savetsky, Executive Director; Jesse Bell, Assistant Director; Susan Campese, Administrator /Finance Manager. Also present at call to order: Nantucket Golf Management (NGM) President, Alan Costa; Miacomet Golf Course (MGC) Superintendent, Sean Oberly. A. GOLF BUSINESS: 1. Sconset Golf Course (SGC): a.. Monthly Manager's Report (October & November): The Commission reviewed the balance sheets and profit and loss comparisons through October 31, 2014 and November 30, 2014, as well as the October 2014 and November 2014 check registers. Mr. Costa reported SGC had a good year although not as well as he expected, however the course was very busy. b. Available Cash — Discussion: Rather than have excess cash sit in the bank all winter, Mr. Savetsky suggested transferring part of the balance to the Land Bank to off -set expenditures on the clubhouse renovation. After some discussion, upon a motion made and duly seconded, it was unanimously VOTED to transfer $75,000 from Sconset Golfs account to the Land Bank for use on the clubhouse renovation project. c. Proposed 2014 Budget Discussion: Mr. Costa presented the draft 2015 budget which reflected a modest increase in income which he projected in anticipation of the renovation of the clubhouse but no increases in rates. The expenses were also projected to increase due in part to increase is insurance, supplies, cost of goods sold and fuel. After some discussion, upon a motion made and duly seconded, it was unanimously VOTED to approve the budget totaling $214,690 which includes an addition of $2,000 for water expense. 2. Miacomet Golf Course: a. Monthly Manager's Report (October & November): The Commission reviewed the balance sheets and profit and loss comparisons through October 31, 2014 and November 31, 2014, as well as the check registers and credit card statements for October 2014 and November 2014. Mr. Costa said income was up over the prior year as were expenses. Mr. Costa answered various questions from the Commission pertaining to the check register. Land Bank Commission Page 2 December 8, 2014 b. Bartering Discussion: Commissioner Bartlett asked for an accounting of the various bartering agreements for 2014. Mr. Costa told the Commission there were three such agreements in which the vendors received golf privileges in exchange for cleaning the carpets, window cleaning, and winterizing the irrigation system, respectively. Mr. Costa said he felt that overall MGC received a good value for the barters and Mr. Oberly said the irrigation barter was particularly advantageous to MGC. After some discussion, upon a motion made and duly seconded, it was VOTED to disallow all bartering agreements in 2015 with the exception of the irrigation barter agreement. Commission Stackpole was opposed. c. 2015 Proposed Rate — Discussion: Mr. Costa recommended a 5% increase for membership fees to the legacy single and family membership in order to close the gap between their rate and the regular membership rates. Land Bank Commission Page 3 December 8, 2014 Commissioner Gardner departed the meeting at 3:15 p. m. d. MGC — 2015 Proposed Budget: Mr. Costa presented a draft of the 2015 Miacomet Golf Course budget previously provided by electronic correspondence and answered questions about notable line -items and changes. After much discussion, it was the consensus of the Commission to revisit the budget with corrections at a future meeting when additional salary information would be provided. ADJOURNMENT: Upon a motion made and duly seconded, it was VOTED to adjourn at 3:40 P.M.
