fondly remembered Ms. Rezendes' warm and kind spirit. The Commissioner's sent a
sympathy card to Ms. Rezendes' family.

Topics: 3:45 p.m.
Downtown Sidewalks:
Mr. Rowland mentioned that Allen Reinhard met with Ms. McDonough and
himself to discuss Nantucket Roads & Right of Way Committee's downtown
sidewalk survey. The purpose is to identify the condition of the sidewalks and
rate them on a scale of 1 to 5. They have outlined the boundary area to be
covered, developed a form to collect data, and then will develop a process to
collect and summarize the information that is gathered. Once the information is
gathered, it will be reviewed with the DPW Director, Planning Director, and
the Transportation Planner, and then will make recommendations to the BOS.
Mr. Hubbard asked if the plan had anything to do with downtown lighting. Mr.
Rowland replied that Ms. McDonough will send them the information from the
lighting inspection that she conducted earlier this year. Ms. McDonough
mentioned that she will inspect all the curb cuts and crosswalks in the
downtown area and send them that list also.
Update: 3:50 p.m.
Two Accessible Parking Spaces:
The two accessible parking spaces that we requested were approved.
Meeting at least Six -Tmes- per -Year:
Ms. McDonough explained that we schedule to meet every month in the event
that we have some time - sensitive material that we must review. However, we
are only required to meet six - times - per -year. The Commission members will
be notified if we are definitely going to meet on our scheduled second Tuesday
of the month or not.
`Sconset Post Office:
Ms. McDonough informed the Commissioner's that the `Sconset PO has an
automatic door opener. (Awesome)
Yoshi's:
Yoshi's received the variance for not providing access to their front door.
Summer Street Church:
SSC received their time variance for making their altar accessible, installing
accessible seating, and hand rails on the steps to the altar.
Bartlett Road Street Lamps:
Bartlett Road has only six street lamps on the entire road. Ms. McDonough
will contact the DPW and find out the protocol for requesting more street
lamps on that road.
Ms. Snow stated that the intersection of Bartlett and Surfside Roads is one of
the busiest on the island. She also mentioned that there is awareness on
Nantucket not to light -up the sky with up lighting.
Ms. Topham noted that Hummock Pond bike path is not well lit either.
However, Bartlett Road is more densely populated and heavily traveled. That's
why we feel that this area needs better lighting.
Handrails at the Founder's Building:
Ms. McDonough contacted Lina Gilles at the hospital regarding no handrails at
the Founder's Building. Ms. Gilles said that handrails will be installed. Ms.
Snow added that yellow lines of the edge of each step would greatly help
anyone with sight impairments. A Commissioner responded that all the steps in
the hospital should have contrasting stripes on the leading edge of each step.
We can request this in Memory of Ms. Rezendes.
Ms. Snow thought that Nantucket's Etiquette Hand Book should explain that
yellow lines on the street next to the curb designate "No Parking ".
PA
Other Business:
Ms. Snell mentioned that the Congregational Church does not provide access to
the altar. Mr. Rowland wondered if the public accessed the altar.
Mr. Hubbard asked why an automatic door opener was necessary. Mr. Rowland
answered that if the door or it clearances do not comply with the AAB's
regulations, then you must provide an automatic door opener.
Ms. Topham talked about the Thrift Shop's fifteen- minute parking space on
Hussey Street. She wonder if a vehicle with a disabled parking placard would be
allowed to park there all day, even though the sign designates fifteen minutes for
the Thrift Shop. Mr. Rowland suggested that they might be able to change it to a
loading zone space for the Thrift Shop.
Executive Session: 4 :25
Ms. Topham motioned to go into Executive Session to discuss the parking permit
applications, and not to return to the Open Meeting once the Executive Session is adjourned,
which Ms. Snell seconded, and Mr. Rowland, Ms. Topham, and Ms. Snell, Ms. Snow, and
Mr. Hubbard voted in favor of this motion.
