Nantucket Planning & Land Use Services
Presenter: Andrew Vorce
Mr. Vorce introduced himself as the Director of Planning for Nantucket Planning & Land Use Services
and that he would be giving a presentation for three proposal grants.
The first proposal is for the Historic Depot & Park at Pleasant & Dave Street(s) and to move the Maria
Mitchell Aquarium building. He gave a brief history of the building that they are planning to move.
Since 2007 this has always been a targeted space for visitors and open space. The HOC has given us
permission to move the building to this site. The building was one of the last buildings built in the 1916
in Tom Nevers and it would function as a shelter, and bus stop. It would preserve its historic integrity by
being near one of the railroad beds. Mr. Vorce also stated that this was a preliminary plan.
A brief discussion followed.

Mr. Vorce presented the second proposal for the Francis/Union St. Pocket Park. This involves use from
past allocations for affordable housing and existing houses planned to be moved by Housing Nantucket to
a site on Miller's Lane. It has been approved by HDC. Mr. Voroe stated that they don't anticipate as
formal of a park here because of its location.

the building of Nantucket which is used by the Historic District Commission. It's a cherished book that a
lot of people like, but it misses a lot of projects that are current. Mr. Voroe stated that he would like to see
it more connected to falcons of areas. Mr. Voroe also stated that for historical preservation this book
would be crifical to update. Mr. Voroe added any funding made available it would be well spent.

The Chairman welcomed Comm Collier of Nantucket Land Council
Nantucket Land Council
Presenter: Cormac Collier
Mr. Collier introduced himself as the Executive Director of Nantucket Land Council, Inc. He stated that
the grant proposal he's presenting is to ask for to help offset the purchase cost of the FAA tower.
According to the Conservation Foundation map, (the gray parcel) it is 97 acres of open space which has
been on the conservation map since 1967. The property is full of endangered species which is why we
would like to get it into conservation or at least a large part of it. There are over 7 -8 different types of
plant communities on the property from the valley in the southwestern portion all the way up to your
typical scrub oak community which is fairly dense throughout the island.
Mr. Collier presented a work plan and stated that the Land Council has the opportunity to purchase at
least 60 acres and put it into open space. Currently the property is in the hands of GSA (General Services
Administration) and they handle the disposition of all federal property. The town is negotiating a no cost
transfer for a portion of the property for potential waste water treatment.
A brief discussion followed.
