It was determined this land was owned by the Box. Ben Champoux is going to reach out to the Box owners to discuss possibilities. This area has been targeted by the TAC as an area of improvement in the mid island with 3 trees. There was a brief discussion on how to protect these trees with various curbing solutions and specific tree varieties to be planted. Elms and Zelkovas were discussed; moneys from the CCS trees acquired by the town would be utilized for the cost of the trees. House moving and how it relates to town trees: Dale Gary reports there is a 35 foot house in application process in the Cliff Road / Sherburne turnpike area by the Nantucket Housing Authority. There is concern a 35 foot house would be too large to move and would damage trees. Dale reports the town is considering nothing over 21 feet tall be moved over the road. There was a brief discussion about the approval process and the way that flows through town offices when a house is moved. There was a locust tree recently damaged across from the basket museum due to a house move and another locust on Union St. Michael Misurelli suggested a certified arborist accompany house moves, there was a discussion about the pros and cons of this approach. TAC has concerns to set a precedent that an arborist accompanying a house move would just cut limbs to accommodate house moves without considering the best interests of town trees. If the heights of house moving's continue to grow larger this will negatively affect tree canopies. Dale will meet with town officials in the upcoming weeks and update the TAC. New Business: TAC in conjunction with Dale Gary needs to come up with the replacement varieties for Sconset tree removals. There is a Buiseman Elm in front of Met on Main that Dale recommends for removal and a Sycamore Maple on Federal St. with a completely dead top. The Sycamore cannot be effectively pruned with the amount of deadwood present. Zelkovas, Saw Tooth Oak, and Sweet Gum were discussed as replacements. Paul Droz recommends evaluating the Elm in front of 76 Main there is a large cavity present. Public Comment: Whit Bourne questioned why the town was cutting back so much roadside brush.
