Mrs. Beck convened the meeting at 3:05 PM. Those present agreed that the land Bank continued to be
ideal for BMAC meetings unless more space for a public hearing was needed and that the current day
and time for the meetings was convenient. Mr. Dickson moved, with Mr. Quigley seconding, that during
this summer the members will meet on the second Thursday of each month at 3 PM as follows:
June 9 July 14 August 11 September 8 Unanimous Vote

The Beach Manager's Report: ~ ~ 2
During the winter several Town Departments involved in code enforcementf-theBuildi~
Department, the Board of Health, and the Conservation Commission were merged ~der Richard Ray;
Parks & Recreation joined with the DPW for park maintenance, with Beach Manageh1ent takir~on
Beach Concessions with contracts negotiated by Diane O'Neil. Jimmy Manchester will continu~
schedule all events using parks properties and programs. The Beach Manager, under a new tit~
Natural Resources Coordinator, will work with the Conservation Commission and other entities, and
develop a broader view of Coastal Management practices.
Thirty-four lifeguards have been hired, twenty-three of whom are returning veterans.
Mrs. Beck inquired about the Police Department summer plans. Smith's Point is expanding so
quickly that some restrictions for bird protection and vehicle use will have to be established. The Police
will present a draft plan for July 4 on June 2 to cover 40th Pole, Smith's Point, and Nobadeer. She also
asked if beach stairs on private property still needed permission for installation from the Conservation
Commission. If once permitted, Mr. Carlson stated, no further permits were necessary unless the stairs
were completely redesigned.

Mr. Quigley asked where BMAC should go in the future. Mr. Carlson replied that its strength was in
being a good advisory committee. He wished the 80S would use BMAC more as a good public outlet for
issues like the dog leash aw and beach driving. Mrs. Van Lieu asked if a letter to the TM alerting her of
our readiness to help would be useful. The member requested her to draft the message.
Mr. Carlson noted that the Shellfish Advisory Board also wished the BOS would ask it more often for
advice.
Mrs. Beck announced two candidates for appointment to BMAC as of July 1. Mr. Dickson stated that he
had resigned but would like to stay connected with BMAC as often as possible. The members
recognized his long affiliation and leadership of BMAC and appreciated his wish to stay connected.
Mrs. Beck moved for adjournment at 4 PM, seconded by Mr. Quigley and Mrs. Van Lieu.
