Minutes of the meeting of May 26, 2010. The meeting took place at 12:00 pm in the
town building at 2 Fairgrounds Road Nantucket, MA 02554. Members of the council
present were: Dorothy Hertz, Rachel Rosen, Linda Williams, and Sue Marques.
Absent: Jackie McGrady, Linda Barrett, and Maria Pena. Public present: Mary
Wawro. Staff present: Maryanne Worth and Ann Medina.
Quorum: Meeting was called to order at 12:17 when a quorum was established.
Approve minutes: The minutes of March 15th were approved by unanimous
consent.
Public Comment: May Wawro has applied to the Council for Human Services
Committee and the Contract Review Committee. Appointments will be made after
July 1st. If anyone knows of someone who would be interested in being on either
committee, there are three openings. Spread our base to become more effective.
The BOS wants the recommended nine members to be on the Council for Human
Services Committee.
Rachel Rosen left at 12:45.
Update and Information Sharing: Maryanne met with Bob Karelitz, (Tuppancy-
Harris Foundation) about possible funding for the Community Needs Assessment
Survey. This survey is going to cost approximately $35/000. The Family Centered
Institute is interested in doing this again, but this will have to go out to bid.
Maryanne attended the Connect Training forsuicide prevention. Healthy
Community Conference, Monday June ih 9:30 to 3:30 in Shrewsbury, MA. There
are four slots available for CHS if anyone is interested in going. Dorothy and
Linda are interested but they have to be back on island by 6:00 pm.
Maryanne sent out a newsletter (included in packet) and she has received
positive responses to it.
There is going to be a money management workshop 'Financial Wellness
Program: How to Get Your Finances in Order' June 1ih 9:30 to 12:30. The
Interfaith Council Rental Assistance Program (NRAP) and Housing Nantucket are
mandating that all their clients attend this workshop.
Maryanne has been charged with coming up with a homeless policy, she has a
draft and will discuss this with Libby. Maryanne will document how the council is
meeting the needs of the community.
Oral Health: Dr. Amos Dienard, will be offering training in oral health and the
application of fluoride varnish to all physicians treating children between the
ages of 1-3 who are on Mass Health.
The school snack program will start up in the fall.
The council can use one side of the town bulletin board for posting things like
'Going to BJ's and have room in my car' etc. Volunteers will be needed to
monitor the board in order to do this.
At the last Human Services Collaborative Study Workgroup, Whitey Willauer
handed out the new proposal for the Request for Proposal (RFP) that was given
to the BOS from Michael Kopko. How will this work? Who does the interviews
and recommendations? This is not known at this time. Would it be prudent to
ask for a meeting between CHS & CRC to discuss this new process? It was
decided to arrange a meeting between the two committees. The meeting will be
on Wednesday June 2/ 2010 at 1 :00 pm. A motion to adjourn was made and
seconded. Meeting adjourned at 1: 15
