Members present: Linda Barrett, Dorothy Hertz, Linda Williams, Rachel Rosen and Sue Marques. Absent: Jackie McGrady, Eve Messing, Greg Mehringer, Maria Pena. Meeting was called to order at 12:07 pm. Staff Report updates and information sharing: Maryanne Worth reported that the Contract Review Committee ['CRC") was going to the BOS on January 27, 2010 at 6:00 PM to present the recommendations for grants. The CRC will meet with FinCom on February 11, 2010 at 4:00 PM to make the formal presentation on the recommendations. The Department of Human Services received a check from Atlantic East Real Estate for $300 as a gift to be used for emergency transportation and/or fuel/electricity for a needy person or family. Tri-County Oral Health Regional Coalition: A pediatrician/dentist from Michigan, Dr. Amos Deinard, came to the island several months ago to meet with primary care physicians at the hospital and Bob Gardner from the Water Company to talk about fluoridation treatments for children. He would like to visit with each MDfdentist, one-on-one if possible, to train these doctors on prevention of oral health diseases. Maryanne and B.L. Hathaway are working together with this doctor; he will be here in March. It was Selectmen Rick Atherton who connected Dr. Amos Deinard with Maryanne. The Conflict of Interest Law online training was mandated by the State Ethics Commission for municipal employees, volunteers, board and committee members. All members of the CHS must complete the training and print out the certificate prior to April. Information on how to access this training was in your packet. Please complete this and return it to HS office by January 29, 2010. Human Services Collaborative Study Work Group (HSCSWG): In the packet there were minutes from the Human Services Collaborative Study Work Group (HSCSWG) to date for the Council to read. The Community Foundation gave $5,000 to the Suicide Prevention Coalition to have monthly lunch meetings for health and human service providers. The goal is to form a human service collaborative among the public and private agencies involved in the provision of human services. The first meeting was on January 19, 2010 at noon at the Faregrounds Restaurant by invitation only. To the Council's knowledge, several of the agencies receiving funding from the CRC have not been asked to join the proposed collaborative. Concern was expressed about the lack of details, the impact the proposed Coalition would have and the issue of several groups not included to date. It was also noted by Council Members that there was a reference to the Interfaith Council contained in the HSCSWG minutes that indicated that the members of the group thought that perhaps the Interfaith Council could take over the fuel assistance program. A motion was made and seconded to request a joint meeting in the near future between the CHS and the Interfaith Council to discuss the situation, which was passed by unanimous vote. Future of the Council for Human Services Staff has been asked by Mr. Kopko, the Chairman of the Board of Selectmen, and then subsequently asked by the Town Administrator, to provide a list of unduplicated services the department provided and a list of referrals made on and off island. Meeting adjourned at 1:00 PM. Respectfully submitted, A VVV\llvI~
