Guest: Peter Brace, "Independent" reporter
Mrs. Beck convened the meeting at 3:05 PM and asked for approval of the 22 April Minutes. Mrs. Van
lieu abstained, having been absent from that meeting; Mrs. Beck and Mr. Dickson approved them.
The Beach Manager's Report:
He assured the members that the new beach regulations approved by the BOS will become
operative on June 1 and that BMAC will continue to be part of the process for improving beach safety
and civility.
The least terns and the plovers have arrived right on schedule. dassification of them will be
finished soon.
So far he anticipates no beach closings although the shifting of the shoals determines the
amount of erosion along the shoreline. He referred members to the Coastal Zone Management Website
for a look at aerial photos on the overlay maps that track the beach changes. There is an attempt at
Madaket Beach to pickup some of the trash remaining from recently destroyed houses.
Training week for lifeguard crews is set for June 21-28. Twenty-eight of the 30 lifeguards this
year are returning veterans. He suggests that Mrs. Beck call the Chief of Police for the schedules of the
A TV officers.
In reply to Mr. Dickson's query whether the police will treat Figawi this year in the same way as
4 July, he expects the police to evaluate Figawi first and then play 4 July accordingly.
Mr. Dickson regretted that BMAC has not yet been able to meet with Mrs. Stanton and Josh Balling at
the I&M about a plan for summer beach news. He will try again at the first of the week.
Mrs. Beck announced that she has scheduled a meeting for BMAC on May 27 at 3:00PM to update
today's discussion today for absent members Quigley and Magee. That meeting will be held at the BOS
conference room. The next meetings after May 27 will be June 3 and June 10 at 3:00 PM. Mr. Carlson
asked that July 8 be the first meeting in that month so that the members can discuss the 4 July event at
Nobadeer.
Mrs. Beck reminded those present that her term expires at the end of June. She encourages the
members to begin discussion of the BMAC 2009-2010 Annual Report and to persuade the public to apply
for any vacancies on the Committee.
The meeting was adjourned at 3:55 PM, Mr. Dickson making the motion and Mrs. Van lieu seconding.
Respectfully submitted, with notes from Tom Dickson,
Maureen Beck, Chair
