At 3:05 PM she convened the meeting by the flagpole and asked for approval of the 18 March 2010 Minutes, which were approved unanimously after Mr. Quigley made the motion and Mr. Dickson seconded it. The Beach Manager reported that the BOS on the previous evening had approved the new regul~ns to be added to the Beach Management Plan, effective I June 2010. There was little d~ion before approval as they agreed that the measures were safety provisions for all town-operat~ i}!ache~ Mr. Carlson assured Mr. Brace that these measures would enforce traffic policies on tFre ~ache~ especially during crowded holiday events. Mr. Kassan added that the numbers of veh~~on thEfbeach at certain events should be reported to the 80S and the newspapers. in a o Mr. Carlson was pleased to announce that twenty to twenty-four of the lifeguards would be retuling veterans and familiar with the beach operations. He noted further that the birds were returning, that the official beach signs were posted, that the beach permits for vehicles were available. ::0 fT1 Mr. Quigley asked about the situations at Smith's Point, Osco, and July 4th at Nobadeer. Mr. Carlson is using spot fencing to protect plovers and create a vehicle passage out along the Point. Cisco still has difficult access. As soon as the police have completed their plans for the 4th, there will be another meeting of the beach operations agencies to hear about them. Mr. Quigley suggested that BMAC put its thoughts on paper for the police to consider in handling the 4th. Mrs. Beck reminded the members of their obligations to attend the training sessions and take the exams the Town is requiring for all sworn participants in Town business. Mr. Brace offered his newspaper space for informing the public about summer beach news and new regulations. Mr. Dickson volunteered to help gather public comments and suggestions about the beaches. Mr. Carlson hoped beachgoers would take seriously the habit of taking away what was brought on to the beach, thereby developing a "0ean Beach Mentality." Mr. Kassan distributed an article from a Florida newspaper regarding the public's right to drive on beaches. Mr. Magee worried that some private beach owners would threaten to close their beaches if the right was allowed. BMAC's mission is to keep beaches open as much as possible. The members set the next meeting for May 6 at 3 PM at the Land Bank. Respectfully submitted, with notes from Tom Quigley, Maureen Beck, Chair
