Beach Management Advisory Committee
Land Bank Conference Room
4 February 2010
3PM
Members Present: Maureen Beck, Chair, Tom Dickson, Vice-Chair, Kathleen Van Lieu;
Beach Manager Jeff Carlson
Mrs. Beck convened the meeting at 3:00 pm. She called for a revision ofthe Minutes of 7 January 2010.
Mrs. Roggeveen's statement about the benefit of the One Big Beach Plan with the Land Bank joining in
management of Town beaches was not clear. The members unanimously voted to remove that
statement from the Minutes since Mrs. Roggeveen had not replied to requests for clarification. The
Minutes were then approved unanimously by members present.
Mr. Carlson reported that he and Mr. Saversky had determined that Schneider's and Ladies Beaches
were possible sites where cooperative supervision could be employed by the Beach Manager and the
Land Bank. That recommendation would result in the Town's ceding of both those beaches to the Land
Bank for its supervision. Mrs. Van Lieu remarked that the Town would then have no liability in those
beaches for damages. Mr. Carlson stated the monitoring of endangered species at those sites would not
be simple. Further discussion on these exchanges will take place at the next meeting.
Mr. Carlson reported that a new beach access in Madaket would have to be added to the Beach Driving
Brochure. There are still more tweaks to be done on the Beach Driving Map before it can be issued.
Pursuing Mr. Dickson's request for I&M news coverage of summer beach activities, Mrs. Beck will again
ask Assistant Editor Josh Balling to come as a guest to the next meeting.
The next meeting of BMAC will be on February 18th at 3 PM in the Land Bank Conference Room.
Respectfully submitted, with notes from Tom Dickson,
Maureen V. Beck, Chair
