A positive motion to approve the minutes of September 18, 2008 was made.
Information sharing:
Jackie is unemployed; she was the general manager of the Community
Foundation however the foundation wanted to go in a different direction and
they have hired an executive director who will be focusing on high end donors;
they won't be doing grants yet, they will be concentrating on raising money at
this time.
Also, the Food Pantry has a new administrator, Andy Reis.
Maryanne talked about the Contract Review Process; CRC has met with the
FinCom, talked about the impact of agencies not getting money. The CRC bases
its recommendations on information presented to them by the different agencies
then the CRC makes its recommendations to the FinCom. The article can be
called and amended on town meeting floor. The CRC will meet before town
meeting to discuss responses in the event article 9 is called.
Continuum of Care: all services are about to change. What came out of this, NCH
and NBHS got together to provide a continuum of care around substance abuse,
agencies partnering together, we were told that they would come back next year
NCH, NBHS and ASAP would be one proposal, this would open up more funding
opportunities.
Maryanne had suggested to Brian Chadwick about the possibility of making the
hospital a line item. The CRC supports what the hospital does and this was a
very tough year to make cuts.
The Human Services culture is going to change dramatically and rapidly, money
will decrease, how do we want to position ourselves? Who is going to be helpful
to us? One of the services we can provide that a coalition cannot is
demographics showing what is really happening, how many are homeless, this
information will not come into public data.
Upcoming events:
Multicultural Festival Saturday March 7th at Cape Cod Community College.
Youth Summit on Friday March 20th at Cape Cod Community College.
Maryanne is going to a suicide seminar on April 15th and if anyone is interested
in going let her know.
The Nantucket Network for Well-being is forming a 501 (C) 3; and along with
The Council for Human Services will be sponsoring a Community Wellness Fair
Saturday May 2~d 10:00 to 2:00, volunteers will be needed, to help set up and
break down, if anyone is interested let Maryanne know. Thinking of having an
International Cafe and will be looking for donations of gifts for door prizes.
Maryanne and Glen Weimer will go to the hospital to see if they can hang up
posters, this is a fun fair.
Maryanne is hoping to reinstate the Community Health Network. Several years
ago Maryanne received a grant for $2500 to hold these meetings and once a
month a guest speaker would come and talk about their special interest.
Fabulous things came out of this based on what the needs were. "Unity with a
Purpose". Because of small attendance this was discontinued and Maryanne
would like to resurrect it now, maybe do it quarterly instead of monthly.
Maryanne has spoken to Jenni Garneau and Sheri Copeland about brainstorming
and about having them speak about suicide and what is happening at one of
these meetings. Maybe establish a hotline, looking to do that soon. Rachel
expressed interest in that.
Maryanne also mentioned that B.L. Hathaway is interested in coming over to do
facilitation workshop. That will be after July 1~.
The meeting adjourned at 1:15. the time and date of the next meeting wilt be
announced at a later date.
