John Belash, Sue Marques, Rachel Rosen. Absent: Ann Medina, Mary Kendall, Nancy Sevrens, Jackie Mc Grady and Greg Mehringer. Review of Agenda/no changes or additions? Approve 10/10/07 Min. Upon a Motion made by Rachel Rosen, Seconded by Eve Messing, the Minutes of October 10th were unanimously approved as presented. Up-dates /Sharing: Sue Marques recapped her 37 ?year history on Nantucket, 4 kids, associated with Fire Department as EMT, former Dir of Food Pantry (8 years) now drive taxi and provides 1:1 elder care 4 days a week. Rachel Rosen nurse practitioner, specializing in geriatrics Eve Messing - II Review Final CHS Goals & Objectives Maryanne directed attention to the CHS goals & objectives a copy of which is attached to the file copy of these minutes. Following discussing, including a big THANK YOU to Eve for here assistance in creating the attached document. It was agreed that Council members would review the Goals and Objectives and provide Maryanne any comments, suggestions, and/or revisions on or before November 26th HS Updates: Planning Community Forums: BL Hathaway Workshop next steps. A recap of the recent presentation by BL Hathaway was provided. Ms. Worth stated that B.L. Hathaway's contract included a follow up presentation for the Council. Since the meeting will be mandatory for Council members, a poll was made of possible dates and times. Ms. Worth will contact B.L. to ascertain her availability. Ms. Worth discussed the four focus groups that arose from the Community Needs Survey; Oral Health, Mental Health, Housing and Economics. The members present were asked which focus area they would like to be assigned; Rachel Rosen, having a previous affiliation with B.U. Dental School, wished to be assigned to Oral Health. Mrs. Rosen expounded on the need for additional dental services on the island. She suggested that an affiliation between BU Dental School might be formed wherein students would provide supervised dental services to needy individuals. Ms. Worth mentioned the Dental program Pauline Proch, NCNC, brought to the elementary school, which was funded by a grant. Ms. Worth will discuss the program and terms of the grant with Mrs. Proch as well as Mrs. Rosen's suggestion of forging an affiliation with BU. In addition, it was suggested that accommodations could be obtained from Bed & Breakfasts, especially if the students come to the Island when the season is less busy. Additional comments relative to obtaining space for the dental program at the Hospital and/or an unused dental office were also discussed. Eve Messing, Sue Marques and Rachel Rosen all expressed an interest in Mental Health; it was believed Greg Mehringer, who was absent, would be interested in Affordable Housing, to which Ms. McWade also expressed an interest, John Belash and Alice McWade also expressed an interest in Economics. Ms. Marques commented that Economics affects everything and inquired about offering a basic budgeting workshop. Ms. Worth stated that the Nantucket Housing Office has offered such workshops in the past. In addition entities such as WIC, Consumer Credit Counseling on Cape Cod & Islands ,and Housing Assistance Corp also offer budget workshops.
