N Mrs. Beck convened the meeting at 4:05 pm and asked for approval of the Minutes of 14 May 2~. Mr. Leddy reported that he had been assured by the Land Bank that the sign on their Apthorpe property at Surfside was incorrect. They will change it from "Closing at dusk" to the general beach policy of "Closing at 10:00 pm." This change will affirm Mr. Leddy's remarks about the sign in the last several meetings of BMAC. Mrs. Beck will make note of this change in these Minutes. Mrs. Beck then asked for another approval of Minutes. The Town Clerk has requested that BMAC affirm its approval of all the Minutes from July 1, 2008 to May 14, 2009. The members voted unanimously to do so. In the Beach Manager's absence Mrs. Beck reported on beach closings. Cisco has been closed because of the erosion at the access point. However, at the June 17 BOS meeting, Harbormaster Fronzuto announced that the beach there is rapidly building up and may be opened soon. He will keep officials notified. Madaket Beach has built back up at the access point but has At Risk signs posted because of the debris from collapsed houses poking up out of the sands at low tide. Chief Pittman has announced that ATV operations may be slowed up because of the eroded beaches. The patrols will have to move up to the roadways occasionally and then re-access beaches where there is room to drive. He requests that anyone in need of a patrol called directly to the police station. Mrs. Beck reported that the Town Manager met with those involved in beach operations in a pre- summer beach discussion to ensure that everyone was alert to procedures for July 4 and otherwise. The next two meetings were set for July 9 and July 23. Mr. Johnson would like to see more signage at Miacomet Beach. He agreed that Cisco to Madaket had taken a beating last winter along the beach. He suggested another letter to the papers warning beach drivers about the erosion. Mrs. Van Lieu asked if beach properties would be shut down to vehicles by owners because of driving abuse. Mr. Leddy gave a report on his concerns along the South Shore. Miacomet Beach lacks signage; no barrels are available. Barrels at Surfside Public Beach only appeared recently; the phone booth there is not working; the bike rack there is damaged; workers at the adjacent Schwartz property are parking in that lot. At Woodbine cars are driving over the plantings along the path. At Fisherman's Beach the bench is no longer in place but tossed below the steps; the bottom stairs are broken; emergency signs are missing; asphalt chunks from the hardening in the parking space have been tossed off the sides of the stairs. The Land Bank bicycle rack has been replaced at the end of Nonantum Avenue. At Nobadeer Beach there were no barrels until recently although they should be a priority there because the area is messy from party trash; the posts and wiring around them on the abutting Conservation property are knocked over, and advertisements from Harry Larrabee and A-1 Taxi are affixed to them. Mr. Leddy concluded with the observation that he had heard many complaints about the beaches so far this year. Mrs. Beck will call A-1 Taxi, the Conservation Foundation, the DPW, and the Parks & Recreation Department about Mr. Leddy's concerns. The meeting was adjourned at 5:02 pm. Respectfully submitted, with notes from Tom Dickson, Maureen Beck, Chair
