Mr. Dickson hoped that members of the community could be featured in comments about keJping the b~hes beautiful and in observing good beach practices, like keeping dogs on leash, picking up any li'Ylr, and obeying driving and parking regulations. Mr. Leddy emphasized the importance of keeping t~ beaches and their access paths litter-free all year round. Mrs. Beck asked how much time Plum could devote to such information. Ms. Brosnan replied that if BMAC could come up with three 10-30 second blurbs using photos and very brief comment to attract attention, her team could design spots for them randomly at the beginning of the summer and later in the season. She did not recommend using the spots repeatedly because people lose interest, but just enough to heighten attention. She could also arrange an editorial piece which would last five minutes and could serve as a call to action for improving beach respect. She also suggested that if some instance of beach abuse occurred, someone should ring Channel 22 to report it for airing on the Morning Show. Mr. Leddy suggested photos be taken in early spring of the trash accumulated for a long time in the vegetation along the beach accesses and dunes as well as on the beach to contrast with photos to be taken later in the summer of litter left by beachgoers. He hoped that these photos would highlight the lack of attention to taking away what had been brought in to the beach but also the great amount of litter in off season as well as in the summer. Ms. Brosnan agreed that such photos would be very effective; she will call Mr. Leddy when she gets a camera team together to look at some sites with him. Mr. Dickson suggested one-liner spots with young people urging their peers to respect the beaches. A photo of an ATV patrolman on duty with beachgoers would be another idea. Ms. Brosnan also suggested Plum could advertise the logo and the direct line to send viewers straight to the Beach Management Website. Mrs. Beck asked Ms. Brosnan when she would like the three blurbs and some photos for her team to work with. If Plum could receive material by the end of April, it could be ready by Memorial Day. Mrs. Beck emphasized that these items were to educate and remind viewers, not to scold them. Mr. Dickson mentioned that a number of people involved in beach operations, like the Beach Manager, lifeguards, A TV police, and beach caretakers, could be possible guests on the Plum Morning Program. Mrs. Beck added Footprints Only, the non-profit spin-off organization of the Surfside Association, which circulates posters and beach gear imprinted with their logo. The members thanked Ms. Brosnan and agreed to be in touch soon with ideas, slogans, and photos. Mrs. Beck agreed to delay the approval of the Minutes of 6 March until the next meeting, March 20, when DPW Head Jeff Willett will be the guest. She stated that she hoped to wind up the interviews and the report to the Town Manager by early April so that BMAC could concentrate then on the TV and Website assignments. After some general conversation the meeting was adjourned at 5:30 pm. Respectfully submitted, with notes from Tom Dickson, Maureen Beck, Chair
