. Linda notified the Commission that Michael Bums of the Nantucket Planning and
Economic Development Commission requested our Commission's participation
in updating the Regional Transportation Plan. He is soliciting input from our
Commission as to what we consider to be our goals, objectives, and potential
improvements that could be included in the Transportation Plan in regards to
access. Linda mentioned the following potential improvements:
I. Increased accessible routes to points of entry to Nantucket.
2. Accessible wharfs and accessible paths to the wharfs
3. Increased daily and weekend transportation for the disabled and elderly
community
Brenda will contact Michael Bums and inquire as to what information he may
need from us.

. The Commission reviewed the "Suggested List" for DOl compliance and made
the following comments:
1. Pacific National Bank, Main Street
Signage at the main entrance directing disabled customers to the accessible
entrance on Upper Main Street
Signage on the accessible entrance door
Policy for accommodating a disabled customer
Linda contacted Joel Brown, President of Pacific National Bank, and he
said that he would put up the signage and create a policy for
accommodating the disabled community.
2. Congdon Pharmacy
Recessed entryway with a step to enter the pharmacy
The Commission voted to include this business on the DOJ compliance
list.
3. Nantucket Pharmacy
Step on sidewalk, then a recessed entrance
The Commission voted to include this business on the DOJ compliance
list.
4. Hub
Step on sidewalk at entrance
The Commission voted to include this business on the DOJ compliance
list. After some discussion, the Commission agreed that if any business
can be in compliance with the AAB's regulations, then keep that business
on the DOJ list. However, if the business cannot possibly comply with the
AAB's regulations, then that particular business will be removed from
the DOJ list. Linda suggested that we set up a meeting with Charles
Lewis, a mason, to help us evaluate some businesses on this list as to the
possibility of their compliance. Brenda will contact him and see if he will
help us.
5. Juice Guys
Several levels along the board walk causing the Juice Guys to be inaccessible
The Commission voted to include this business on the DOJ compliance
list.
6. Nantucket Family Chiropractic

No accessible parking
The Commission voted to include this business on the DOJ compliance
list. Linda suggested that we contact Mindy Levine, Chiropractor, about
an access plan they may already have.
7. Joseph Ranney Chiropractic
Step to entrance
No accessible parking
No longer at this address and his new business on Amelia Drive is
accessible.
8. Nantucket Bookworks
Recessed entry with step to business
The Commission voted to include this business on the DOJ compliance
list.

entrance is possible.
10. Sconset Market

list.
11. Summer House Restaurant

Linda will talk to Peter Carlson about accessibility. (Did she?) The
Commission voted to include this business on the DOJ compliance list.
12. Tresses Day Spa
Step to walkway
Step to entrance
This business is difficult to make accessible. Dick will look at this location
and give us his opinion on access. If this business cannot meet the access
codes then we will not submit it to the DOJ.
13. The Galley Restaurant

so we do not need to include this on the DOJ list.

list.
16. Schooner's Restaurant

17. Courtyard Shops
No accessible entrance
Mickey believed that the all the shops at the courtyard could be
accessible. We will have Charles Lewis look at this property also. If
Charles thinks that repaving the courtyard to gain access is possible, then
we will include this business on the DOJ compliance list.
. Brenda had a list of permit holders who were sent letters of inquiry requesting them
to consider becoming a possible Commission member.
. Phil suggested that we try to have a hearing-impaired person on our Commission so
we could be sensitive to the needs of the hearing-impaired public. Mickey mentioned
that we should be sensitive to all forms of disabilities and we would do our best as a
Commission to have varied disabled members.
. Dick motioned to adjourn, which was seconded and so it was voted.
