The regular meeting of the Conservation Commission was called to
order at 7:38 PM by Chairman Borchert. Members present were: P. Bennett,
C. Borchert, G. Burchell, B. Richmond, A. Silva and P. Waine. Members
aosent: C. Pearl.
1. Minutes of the meeting of March 24 and April 7, 1983. A motion was made and
seconded to accept the minutes as typed with the following correction: in
the minutes of March 24, page 3 , line 11, change the spelling in Learned to
Learner. It was so voted. There was no opposition.
2. Audience to pre ss and public. Mr. Bruce Poor addressed the Commission concerning
the flooding problem caused to his property ~y the high level of Sesachacha Pond.
The Commission informed Mr. Poor the Town would need to obtain permits from the
Co~ission, DEQE, the Division of Waterways and the Army Corps of Engineers before
the pond w~s opened! There followed discussion between Mr. Poor and the Commission
gn the opening of the pond. The Commission advised Mr. Poor to contact the County
Co~issioners regarding the matter.
3. Elizabeth Holdgate - Reauest for Determination. The field inspection report of
the property located at Madaket Road was read. The Commission voted to issue
a Determination that the area located 430 feet north of the utility to the street
was subject to the Act. There was no opposition. Larry Cronin addressed the
Commission concerning problems caused to septic systems in the area due to Mr.
Glowacki filling his lot.
4. Jet Gas - Field Inspection Report. The Commission read the field ins~ection report
for the Jet Gas boat landing site. Captain Walker and the Commission discussed the
possibility of utilizing a site in the Hither Creek area for the landing site.
The Commission moved to forward a letter to Jet Gas and DEQE eliminating the
Special Condition 2 in the Determination previously issued to Jet Gas.
5. Weslev Tiffney - Request for Determination. Dr. Tiffney explained the proposed
project to replace a culvert to the Commission. It was voted to issue a negative
Determination, Item 4 for the project. There was no opposition.
6. Robert B. Blair - North Liberty Street. The Commission discussed the problem
of flooding from the sewer onto Mr. Blair's property. Mr. Roy Egan from the
Department of Public Works was present to discuss the situation with the Commission.
The Commtssion spoke on the pessibility of diverting the water from Mr. Blair's

property by relocating the pipes. The Commission decided to refer the
matter to the DPW.

Mr. Richard L. Ray - North Beach Street property.

the amount of fill added to what appeared to be a

8. Prentice Claflin - Order of Conditions. A motion was made and seconded to
issue a standard Order of Conditions for the removal of a derelict vessel and
the dredging of clean sand of I Washington Street. There was no opposition.
9. Mr. Tucker - Request for Determination. A motion was made and seconded to
issue a negative Determination on property located at Whale Bone Hill, Shimmo.
There was no opposition.
10. Mr. Francis - Request for Determination. The Commission voted to schedule a
field inspection of the property located on Dukes Road. There was no oppositiou.
ll~ Mr. McAuley - Request for Determination. The Commission voted to schedule a
field inspection of the property located on Hulbert Avenue. There was no
opposition.
12. Planning Board Referral Form - Nantucket Beach Properties. The Commission voted
to forward a letter to the Planning Board stating the proposed subdivision was
not subject to the Wetlands Protection Act. There was no opposition.
13. Sesachacha Pond. The Commission read a letter from Gregor I. MacGregor and
Mrs. Evans concerning Sesachacha Pond. It was voted to notify the Board of
Sele~tmenand County Commissioners it would be necessary to file a Notice and
.obtain all necessary permits before opening the pond. There was no opposition.
14. Bills. A motion was made and seconded to pay a bill of $22.00 from PBA and
a bill of $22.33 from New England Telephone. There was no opposition.
Tbere being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:42 PM.
