The Public Hearings of the Nantucket Conservation Commission began
at 7:30 p.m. Members present were: P. Waine, L. Dunn, M. Arnold,
L. Leske and P. Dunwiddie. Members absent were: C. Pearl and A. Silva.
1. Public Hearings:
a. Long Pond Realty Trust - John Roe presented information regarding
the critical conditions of the wells and septic systems of these
sites. P. Waine motioned to close the hearing. So Voted.
b. Bewkes - Heller's Way - SE48-298 - The field inspection report
was read. The committee would like to see a culvert in the center
of the valley. P. Waine motioned to close the hearing. So Voted.
c. Bewkes - Squam Road - SE48-299 - The field inspection was read
The committee voted to continue the hearing until June 6, 1985 to
get more detailed plans of the road.
d. Matthews - SE48-300 - The field inspection was read. The Comm-
ission voted to continue the hearing until June 6, 1985 for further
field inspection and an upland area figure.
e. Dujardin - SE48-301 - The field inspection report was read.
The Commission moved to continue the hearing to have applicants agent
complete the Notice of Intent. DEQE sent notice to have new plans
with house moved back away from the bank. The erosion problem
was discussed.
f. Kaye - Tennis Courts - Davide Haines present as agent. Appendix
A of the notice of intent for this project was reviewed. Dr. and Mrs.
Collins, neighbors of the Kayes, were present at the hearing and
stated their objections to any further building on this property.
The hearing was continued until June t, 1985 for DEQE file number
and plans for the type of tennis court surface.
The regular meeting of the Nantucket Conservation Commission was called
to order at 9:00 p.m.

1. Minutes of April 25 and May 9, 1985:
Both sets of minutes were approved by unanimous vote.
2. Requests for Determinations:
a. E. Bewkes - The Commission voted that this area was not subject
to the Wetlands Protection Act. Lee Dunn opposed this.
3. Orders of Conditions:
a. Bewkes - SE48-298 - The Commission voted to issue an order of
Conditions with the condition that the existing culvert be dug
out to replicate existing water flow.
4. Planning Board Referrals:
a. Vaughn / Holland - The Commission voted to advise the Planning
Board that this project is not subject to the Wetlands Protection
Act.
5. Correspondence:
The Chairman reviewed incoming correspondence.

a. Cohen property Hallowell Lane - The Commission voted to have

the Orders of Conditions to rebuild the dune to its original
elevation
b.John Manning - The Army Corp. of Engineers have asked him to
have a holding pond for dredging to perc. out and evaporate.
c. The Commission discussed the problem of the erosion rate of
some areas of the island and the need to protect the banks, but
for how many years?
