Minutes of January 16, 1986
The public hearings of January 16, 1986 were called to order at 7:30 p.m.
Members present were: M. Arnold, L. Dunn, L. Leske, M.J. Williams and
D. Visco. Members absent were: P. Dunwiddie and P. Waine.
A. Public Hearings:
1. Leonard Sherman - SE48-335 - Squam Road. The hearing was continued at
the request of the agent, John Shugrue, as he will be submitting a more
definative plan.
2. Harborside Realty Trust - Christman Cottages - The hearing was continued
as not file number has been issued by DEQE.
3. Robert McGrath - Miacomet Pond - The Planning Board reviewed the requests
for a narrower road but voted that they must have the road 16 ft. wide
with 2 ft shoulders on either side. Mark Arnold asked the agent, John
Shugrue to flag the 16ft. road and shoulders at the three critical areas
so that the commission could view it on Monday, January 27th. The hearing
was continued until January 30th.
B. Regular Meeting:
1. Minutes of January 2, 1986 were approved by unanimous vote.
2. Planning Board Referral:
a. Valero & Sons - Old South Road. The Commission voted to send a letter
stating that this area is not subject to protection under the Act.
3. Correspondence:
a. A letter from George Wallace was read and the Commission voted to
have Mark write a letter stating that the Commission does not collect
monies on the island but that they support his position that monies
collected by Commissions should go into a Conservation Commissions
budget.
b. A letter from John Stackpole, supporting the opening of Nantucket's
ponds was read and the Commission voted to put it in the pond file.

c. Brant Point Corporation submitted foundation and piling plans. The
Commission voted to request elevations in relation to the dunes.
d. Christopher Gordon was present and read his letter submitted to the
Commission supporting the opening of Nantucket's Ponds. The Commission
advised Mr. Gordon to forward the letter to Elizabeth Kouloheras at
DEQE. Diane Coombs from the Shellfish Advisory Committee was also
present to voice her support for the opening of the ponds.
4. Other Business
a. Nantucket By-Laws - Glenn Wills was present and advised the Commission
that as the By-Law reads not there is a two year appeal period. He
suggested that the Commission have this brought up at the Town Meeting
to change the appeal period to the same amount of time as DEQE.
The Commission wants to consult Town Counsel on this matter.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
