Beach Management Advisory Committee

Members Present: Maureen Beck, Chair, Tom Dickson, Colin Leddy, John Johnson
Mrs. Beck convened the meeting at 4:05. The Minutes of30 August 2007 were
unanimously approved. Continuing the discussion of the Minutes of 9 August, Mrs. Beck
said that she had talked by phone with Mr. Leddy about his concerns for the phrasing of
some of the remarks made by those present at that meeting. She and Mr. Leddy presented
verbal clarifications to the other members who agreed to amend the Minutes as suggested SEP 24 '07 10:49
and then voted their approval. The Committee then directed Mrs. Beck to send them and
an accompanying note to the BOS for their information.
In the absence of the Beach Manager, who notified Mrs. Beck that he had conflicting
appointments, Mr. Dickson asked Mr. Leddy if he had any comments about beach
matters to report. While Mr. Leddy noted that the Labor Day weekend did not have
crowds of people or cars compared to those of early August or July 4, he did want to
mention being accosted while picking berries on a Land Bank property by an A TV patrol
officer who asked him what he was doing. Mr. Leddy was surprised by his bad attitude
and wanted to call BMAC's attention to it.
Mr. Johnson passed around a clipping from "The Boston Globe" listing the
Massachusetts beaches which would now be open to dogs on a leash for the off-seasons.
The members expressed hope that the Beach Manager would be at the next meeting in
order for them to hear an overall report of the beach operations in the last few weeks
when there was noticeably less enforcement and presence by the A TV patrols.
Mr. Johnson also reported that "The Independent" had resumed announcing BMAC
meetings in its Town Business schedule. Mr. Dickson suggested that from time to time
BMAC ask the papers to let them make some current comments and reminders in that
section for public information.
The Meeting was adjourned at 4:45 pm. The next meeting will be 13 September 2007.
