Minutes of the Selectman's Advisory Committee of Non-voting Taxpayers
July 28,1990
The meeting was called to order by chairman ~eter Hanson, at 9:04 a.m. Peter
thought that we should discuss the arrangements, and thoughts concerning the
summer forum. Peter then reviewed the tentative agenda and format for the
meeting. Eech selectman will be asked specific predetermined questions, and
given two minutes to respond. The time limit is suggested so that everyone will
have a fair share of time to express trreir opinion and thoughts. Following the
specific questions, there will be time allocated for general questions from the
floor.
steve Grayson spoke about his ideas to publicize the event. steve presented a
thorough program. Meeting announcements would appear in the two Nantucket
newspapers, and perhaps Channel 3. steve also had produced posters which would
be placed in strategic public places. There followed a discussion of where we
might, in fact, place the posters, for maximum effect.
Trig Cooley had contacted all of the Civic Association officers, and their
response was enthusiastic, and in support of the forum. Sandi Chomo then spoke
about physical arrangements for the meeting. the large instructional
ampitheatre is the most attractive room, but, because of anticipated
participation, it was decided to hold the meeting in the cafeteria.
A discussion was then held concerning the actual questions to be asked during
the formal question period. Selectwoman Nancy Severns commented on our agenda,
and stated that she felt that the word "fair",has become an agressive word. All
committee members should be telephoning friends to come to the meeting.
John Barney introduced his thoughts on improving particular concerns on
Nantucket. There was a general discussion of John's ideas, with Nancy Severns
participating.
Meeting was adjourned at 10:20 A.M.
