HomeMy WebLinkAbout2002-08-20 .... ~ II 11 Community Preservation Committee 16 Broad St Nantucket, MA 02554 COMMUNITY PRESERV A nON COMMITTEE MINUTES - AUGUST 20, 2002 A meeting of the Community Preservation Committee was held on Tuesday, August 20, 2002 at 3 :30 PM in the Land Bank Room, 22 Broad Street, Nantucket, MA. Present were: Barry Rector, Chair, Virginia Andrews, Ken Beaugrand, Pat Butler, Vice Chair, Polly Miller, Neville Richen, Frank Spriggs, Alice McWade, Administrative Assistant, and Dorrie Pizzella, Executive Director Community Preservation Coalition. Also present were three members from the community, two of which were Maryanne Worth and, the third individual's name is not known. The meeting was called to order at 3:30 PM, and a quorum was established. The agenda was approved. It was agreed that Public Comments, Old Business, and New Business would be moved to the end of the agenda allowing Dorrie Pizzella, Executive Director Community Preservation Coalition, enough time to give her presentation and still make the 5:30 pm ferry. The minutes of July 16, 2002 were reviewed and approved as written. DORRIE PIZZELLA, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR COMMUNITY PRESERV A nON COALITION Dorrie Pizzella, Executive Director of the Community Preservation Coalition introduced herself and began her presentation. Copies of her Power Point screen presentation are attached hereto and incorporated herein. OLD BUSINESS A Public Forum was held on Tuesday, August 6, 2002 at 7:00 pm in the Nantucket High School Cafeteria. Barry Rector, Chair of the CPC gave the presentation. The holding of such a yearly forum is part of the CPC mission statement. Channel 17 aired the video regarding the CPC and the projects approved at the Annual Town Meeting, ATM, for approximately two weeks. The reviews received thus far have been positive. A website has been created for CPC through the Town. Application packets can be downloaded from the site. The address is http://www.town.nantucket.ma.us/departments/ cpc/preservtn.html. Alice McWade attended the CHAPA meeting held in Worcester on August 1,2002 regarding the Community Preservation Act and Affordable Housing. Alice had the opportunity to speak about the Nantucket CPC and the affordable housing projects approved at the ATM in April. 1 NEW BUSINESS The deadline for CPC applications is September 3,2002. To date no applications have been received. In an effort to inform the populous of the impending deadline it was agreed that scan ads would be run for the week prior to the deadline on both TV 17 and Channel 22. A Public Notice regarding the Application deadline will be published in the August 29, 2002 edition of the Inquirer and Mirror. A brief discussion regarding the Application Deadline date of September 3, 2002 and whether it would be extended ensued. Upon a motion duly made and seconded it was VOTED: "To adhere to the September 3,2002 deadline". A brief discussion ensued relative to the handout, attached hereto and incorporated herein, which depicted potential funds that may be available to the CPC through matching funds from the State for Fiscal Year 2004.
