Before approving the Minutes, Mr. Leaay asked that a correction be made in them. What he referred to as repairs needed at ;: Fisherman's Beach he meant to be done at the Land Bank: steps at the comer of Lovers Lane and the end ofNonantum Avenue. Once corrected, the minutes were approved unanimously. Since the Beach Manager was not present, members discussed some beach concerns they had noticed. A number of signs are already missing at critical points on the beaches. Some residents are asking for signs alerting beach users to the steep drop-offs they may not see as they approach the shoreline. Some beachfront property owners continue to ask about stairs they wish to install to get down to the shore where the drop-offs are. Mrs. Beck has referred them to the ConCom, which is glad to have the stairs installed as long as each applicant gets a permit from the ConCom. Residents do not take to this advice eagerly. In fact, some have already installed stairs or dug out new paths on property not their own. The ConCom will make an inspection ofthe South Shore beaches to ascertain what new structures or digging may be there. Mr. Quigley proposed the Town take back Nobadeer Beach from the Airport and put lifeguards and services there. Mrs. Ray and Mrs. Beck think that because the beach is in the glide path of the airport this is not possible and, in fact, this argument was used earlier when the Town turned over the beach to the Airport. Mrs. Beck reported that the Assistant Town manager was on vacation when she went to inquire about the state of the private property easement recommendations BMAC had given to the BOS and the possibility of a public hearing about dogs. Mrs. Beck asked if the July schedule of weekly meetings was acceptable. The members approved. The July 19 meeting will have to be held at a room other than the Land Bank:, which is occupied that day. The members approved with modifications the introductory statements Mrs. Beck presented for the Annual Report. She will next present a full draft of the paragraph for their consideration. Mr. Quigley suggested BMAC consider making the Beach Driving Map into a Beach regulations brochure in which the driving regulations are included so that the public could become more aware ofthe cautions related to beach use. Mr. Johnson reported Mrs. Burns's report that 2141 beach driving permits were sold to date. She has had no protests about the fees. Mrs. Ray protested the lack of notice ofthe start of the lifeguards and ATV patrols operations. Mrs. Beck promised to check with Mr. Manchester, in charge of the lifeguards, and later found out that he had not notified anyone of the day they started. Members were curious about the cost of maintaining the lifeguards and the source of the funds for that group. Mrs. Ray urged the Committee to start inviting Chris Calabrese for a mid-summer meeting about the ATV police patrols on the beaches. Mrs. Beck should start soon on making arrangements with Chief Pittman for that meeting later on. There was some discussion in general about Fourth of July plans and expectations. Mrs. Ray noticed some beach "structures" crafted from debris that look like future bonfire material. She asked that the Beach Manager remove them as attractive nuisances. The meeting was adjourned at 5 :00 pm. The next meeting will be July 5 at the same time and place. Respectfully submitted, with notes from John Johnson, Maureen Beck, Chair
