Public Comment
Helen Seger regarding 106 Main Street project before the HDC. Read letter
into record (on file). Stated that she would like to see NHC become involved in
relationship between HDC and Land Bank.
Mr. Marcavitch stated that the NHC shouldn't get directly involved in this
issue since three members ofNHC are part ofHDC system. Ms. Coombs stated
members should be able to separate their duties. Mr. Marcavitch stated that
perhaps the NHC could send a letter to town agencies describing what we do and
how we can help, instead of focusing directly on this issue. A general agreement
was reached that Mr. Marcavitch would write a letter to town agencies and parse
through NHC regarding ability ofNHC to help with preservation issues. The
board also agreed that the NHC should have a list of government groups that we
can be involved with.
Request for involvement in Master Plan
Mr. Marcavitch reported that Andrew Vorce, planning director, has asked the
NHC to be involved in the writing of a section of the Master Plan, specifically the
Historical and Cultural Resources section. A first draft was handed out at meeting
(on file) for discussion purposes. More will be done with this section at next
meeting and specific sections will be parceled out to the group. Mr. Kelly started
a discussion over archaeological resources as part of this section and listed several
new resources (Danny Haines). Mr. Kelly discussed meeting with Mary Lynne
Rainey, formerly of PAL, now of Gray and Pape and mentioned that Andrew
Vorce might have a list of the important archaeological sites. He stated that Ms.
Rainey would be very interested in survey and developing a map of the island
showing different time periods and people. Mr. Marcavitch stated that there
needed to be a way to get information to public about archaeology. Ms. Coombs
suggested that there needed to be place to show this information, such as the
NHA. There was a board agreement that Mr. Marcavitch would contact NHA
regarding exhibition of collections.

5. Community Preservation Funding for survey
Mr. Marcavitch discussed the Community Preservation Act meeting on
August 16, 2005. Perhaps the NHC should consider writing a proposal for a
consultant to work on the archaeological survey as the first component of a re-
survey of the entire island. There was a board agreement that the commission
should submit a proposal for CPA funds. Ms. St. Clair from the audience stated
that she would be happy to volunteer. She also mentioned the idea ofNHC
becoming a clearing house of information for historic house sellers. Develop a
website with information, create inventory of historic elements that can be resold
(i.e. windows).
