HomeMy WebLinkAbout2006-06-04 Beach Management Advisory Committee 5-4-06 4 pm at the Land Bank Conference Room Committee members present: Maureen Beck, Chair, Edie Ray, Torn Dickson Guests: Jeff Carlson, Beach Manager, John Devaney, John Johnson, Francis Farrell Francis Farrell, 4 Westmoor Lane, asked how to proceed in requesting steps at the end of Hinckley Lane for beach access for his elderly parents. The Committee suggested as an alternative that he use other beach access points at Steps Beach or the new Land Bank acquisition at the Water Tower. He was referred to Allen Reinhard and Jack Gardner of the Rights of Way Committee for further information. Although he does not start officially as Beach Manager until May 8, Jeff Carlson came to meet the members. Devaney asked him to check out East and West Miacomet dunes and beaches where the feneing has been removed. This area is indicated on the Beach Driving Map as a no-vehicle zone, but ears are now able to drive through this area on a very narrow strip of beach. The Committee described its mission and offered to tour the beaches with him. Items of priority mentioned were: Making sure all appropriate signs and fencing are in place Visiting Police Chief to insure inclusion in the training of beach patrols, discussing difficult time of no patrols between shifts (4-6 p.m.) Visiting Dog Officer re: public resentment of dogs on beach and enforcement of existing leash laws on public beaches Monitoring budget expenditures and income from permit sales. Visiting Bruce Perry to talk about areas at Miacomet controlled by the Land Bank Visiting Sarah Oktay, UMass. Field Station, for beach profiling information Meeting with the Lifeguard Supervisor for inclusion in the training of lifeguards The Committee agreed to meet May 11, same time, same place, to rewrite the mission statement.
