at 4 pm at the Land Bank Conference Room
Members Present: Maureen Beck, Chair, Torn Dickson, Edie Ray, and Colin Leddy
Guest:
John Johnson
The meeting convened at 4:02 pm. The Minutes of 1 June were approved, with Mr.
Dickson's motion and Mrs. Ray's second. Because the 8 June meeting was cancelled,
there were no minutes to approve.
The discussion of7 June with the BOS re: the revision ofBMAC's Mission Statement
was reviewed. BOS requested that the words ''will strive" be substituted for the word
"hope," and the Mission Statement thus revised was duly resubmitted.
The Beach Manager's Report:
The training sessions of the ATV police patrols emphasized the following:
The patrols should not chase people
should not drive in the dunes or the grass
will be given one chance only to perform their jobs as described
will try to cover the gap between shift changes
will vary their routes but when in pairs stay within sight of each other.
Mr. Leddy asked about patrols keeping a distance from people and a low noise
and speed level. Mr. Carlson replied: 5 MPH only except for 15 MPH maximum where
there are no people. Police sergeants may do spot checks on ATV performance.
Mrs. Beck: Did the Beach Manager speak to the ATV group? Mr. Carlson: Yes.
The two will work independently but must come when he calls. He will be deputized
soon.
Mr. Leddy will report to Mr. Carlson or Officer Carnevale anything amiss. Mrs.
Beck advised his keeping a list of what he sees.
Birds: Mr. Carlson reported imminent fledging for one chick at Jetties. The Wachovia
parties there this next week will be carefully monitored. At Smith's Point there are two
hatchings so far, two imminent, 162 terns in the area. No vehicles past the fence
boundaries. The gatehouse to open with staffing if possible.
Nobadeer: Mr. Dickson reported new dune grass at Nobadeer destroyed by drive-overs.
Mr. Carlson will check and extend some sort of fence protection. Mr. Leddy noted more
parking alongside the new parking lot rather than in it.
;
Other Business:
Mr. Leddy reported good work on the June 3 beach cleanup by the High School Surf
Club. SAT exams may have limited student participation, but DPW took away 6 full
trash bags. New barrels for recyclables and trash now at Nobadeer and perhaps soon at
all other beaches.
Mrs. Beck will provide the Committee with the Building Department's letter of
allowance for new road eut offNonantum by a property owner.
Mrs. Ray asked about the schedule for Lifeguard Training and the crowded trades
parking at Monomoy public beach access.
Beach permits sold to date: 2047 - about usual- no breakdown yet as to number of early
$50 permits and later $100 permits.
Mrs. Ray and Mr. Carlson commended Environmental Police Officer Belanger's
assistance in their work. BMAC will invite his comments once the summer schedule is in
place.
Mrs. Beek distributed directions for preparing BMAC's annual 2005-2006 report. She
hopes for completion before the end of July.
