Mr. Carlson continued to submit a written report to the members of his current activities and plans. In addition, he took their priority lists submitted to him on 22 March and revised them into five items on the lists that he could affect in his office. Mr. Dickson hoped that the Beach Manager would make himself available to speak to the island's civic associations. If asked, Mr. Carlson agreed, he would certainly do so. Mr. Carlson will also post information regarding piping plovers protection on the board at Jetties Beach. He will attend to the overflow of beach traffic at Madequecham, to ATV and dirt bike problems on conservation land and at Surfside. He will see that the Environmental Officer Dean Belanger makes a priority of pursuing the ATV's. He will speak to the ATV police probably in Mayas they prepare for their summer patrols. He will talk to Gage Dobbins at the NCF regarding a public service requirement for graduate interns in conservation programs. He will work with the police on party spots and their locations. He will encourage clean team volunteers to help clear up the trash problems on the beaches. Mrs. Ray asked if some of his endangered species monitors were returning. Yes, but he would also like some Nantucket youngsters to work for him. Could he post the jobs? Mr. Dickson asked. Yes, and also talk to the schools. Any repairs to the shoddy work at Fisherman's Steps? Not yet. Maybe a solution is seasonal removable steps. Mrs. Ray talked about "plumber" as a substitute for metal or lumber in building projects and its use at other marine centers on the Cape's public beaches. Mr. Leddy asked if more beach grass planting was being scheduled. Mr. Carlson replied that, yes, more work will be done once locations are decided and the mechanics of its success determined. There are many permits required for this work, and he explained the permitting process. Mr. Dickson mentioned the Miacomet path area. Sometimes, Mr. Carlson replied, extended work of this order can be done under a maintenance procedure. Mr. Leddy asked about sand bags in use along the beaches. Mr. Carlson noted that there were three such projects along the south shore. The meeting was adjourned at 4:50 pm. Respectfully submitted with notes from Edie Ray, Maureen Beck, Chair
