1. Nant Basket Museum 49 Union Street Move existing sign 55.1.4/31 Karen Butler
Representing-Karen Butler,Nantucket Lightship Basket Museum. They are restoring the quarter
board and would like to relocate it to a more visible location.Thinks the trees obscure the view at its
current location.Thought the quarter board centered over the door facing Francis Street would be
askewed. Had a flag made with the emblem of the lightship museum. The quarter board is 8'x 12".
Kuester- Sign is approved where it stands. Trees are small. Noticed a 3' sign on a flag pole.Thinks
the building is more than adequately"signed".The signs,as proposed are not pointing toward the
entrance. Not in favor of application. The entrance to the building is not on Francis Street.Thinks
they should submit a flag sign application if they want to keep it.
Young- Guidelines do not allow two wall signs on the same elevation.,Quarter board was approved
as an exception. Technically,a flag sign is a type of sign and would count towards total signage and
should be applied for.
Wolf-Suggested moving quarter board over front door.Would like to keep it the way it is.Asked
where the smaller sign would be placed.
Cutone-Agrees with Kuester. Does not support the application as proposed. He thinks the quarter
board works better from the gable end. He would prefer the smaller sign to the right of the door to be
removed. Dan's Pharmacy has a sign over their door on Pleasant Street which is not an"active"
entrance.Would make sense to move smaller sign to the actual entrance door.
Motion to hold for revisions to include a complete sign application which will include the flag
and the new location of the smaller sign;made by Wolf;Seconded by Cutone.
