Criteria: Town of Nantucket resident; acceptance/attendance at an accredited
post-secondary educational institution; all to be influenced by academic
performance and financial need.
If one or more of the four documents required (application, letter from the student,

deemed incomplete and will not be considered.
3. Review and update information on NPS scholarship webpage, applications, etc.
Add to the bottom of the application form (in bold): “If you have any questions or
need assistance please contact Town Administration at (508) 228-7255.”
Also, make changes to the scholarship application information that applications
will be considered once a year (not twice as currently listed). Also change contact
phone and fax.
Look into the possibility of making the date the application is available earlier
(April 1 vs. May 1).
4. Determine whether to award scholarships for FY09; review available funds for
disbursement
Yes! Committee members should review scholarship applications and be
prepared to make recommendations as to whom scholarships should be
awarded.
$7,617.72 as of June 30, 2009; it was discussed that in the past about $1,000-
$1,500 was left in the fund for the following year.
5. Scholarship Committee report for FY09 Annual Town Report
Erika will draft the Scholarship Committee report for the FY00 Town Report.
Jeanette will look to see if she has the list of universities for last year’s award
recipients.
6. Other Business
Erika will research the Tom Curley Scholarship.
Fundraising was discussed. Erika will ask the Tax Collector about changing the
color of the paper for the scholarship donation forms. Adding a photo of past
recipients to the form was also discussed.
To increase awareness of the Scholarship Fund, it was agreed that a yearly
report will be made to the Board of Selectmen (if allowed) on scholarships given
as well as requesting announcements to be added to the Board’s agendas to
alert the public that donation forms will be mailed in tax bills.
Erika will send out contact information for the committee.
