I. Call to Order. II. Establishment of a Quorum. III. Approval of the Minutes – There were no minutes. IV. Public Comment - No public comment. A. Discussion of any non-agenda item from the Public. 1. Michelle Whelan, Director of Sustainable Nantucket, presented an update on the ICLEI (International Council for Environmental Initiatives ) proposal prior to her presentation March 25th to the Board of Selectmen. She requested an endorsement from the Energy Committee. Action- The Energy Committee made corrections to the proposal and Michelle was asked to make these corrections and present the ICLEI (International Council for Environmental Initiatives ) proposal to the Energy Committee again before her presentation to the Board of Selectmen. Michelle agreed to do this. B. Discussion and Action 1 Discussion- Chairman Gookin has charged the Energy Committee with continuing to review the potential for 4WD hybrid police cruisers on Nantucket Action – a. Vice Chairman Carl Borchert will continue his 4WD hybrid police cruiser research in the cities of Ogden, Utah and Wildwood, New Jersey. He will also interview Bill Tornovich, owner of Don Allen Ford, here on Island for his ideas, input, and any plans for Hybrids as related to Police Cruisers. b. Sandra Welsh will request a future meeting with Nantucket’s Chief of Police, William Pittman, to discuss the pros and cons and future use of Hybrid Police cruisers on Nantucket. 2. Discussion- MTC Grant application status for the FAA Wind feasibility study Action – Anne reported the Land Fill site is the only site being considered at this time with installation of 6 or fewer turbines. The FAA feasibility Study was submitted this month by Anne and Barbara. No word on status of The Feasibility Study from the MTC. 3. Discussion – Solar Energy potential for The Wastewater Facility and High School. Page 2 Continued Draft Minutes for The Nantucket Energy Study Committee March 2009 Action – Carl reported on Commonwealth Solar through MTC and The Clean Energy Choice Plan. He also reported on The Green Up Plan which requires a vendor be selected and paid. The possible areas of installation would be The DPW Landfill/The Dump and the WASTE Water Treatment plant. It was decided to focus on The Dump and get a RFQ ( Request for Quote). Chairman Barbara said she will contact Libby Gibson, Town Administrator, to choose one of the following areas for further research : The Dump, the Waste Water Treatment Plant, or The Schools. 4. Discussion - Update on Energy Committee’s White Paper and Land Based Wind Energy. Action - Whitey Wilhauer had no additions at this time. V. Other Business - Karen Alence requested to meet with The Energy Committee again and prior to the Selectmen’s meeting on April 6 , 2009. She wanted the committee to review her proposed amendments of The Town’s Charter dealing with alternative energy on Nantucket. Action – It was decided this was not possible as there was not enough time to meet and assure a Quorum attendance of Energy committee members. VI. The meeting was adjourned at 6:40 PM.
