Call to order II. Establishment of a Quorum III. Approval of the Minutes- Unanimously approved IV. Public Comment : “ Barbara, YHLNT,” Michelle Whelan V. Invited Guests -Mark Voigt, Chairman of Nantucket’s Historical District Commission Tom Barnes and Karen Alence, Town Citizens proposing changes to Annual Town Meeting Citizen’s articles regarding Energy. VI. Discussion and Action A. Discussion-Review five Annual Town Meeting Citizen’s Articles regarding Energy and decide to endorse, not endorse, modify, or offer replacement articles. Action: Article L- Tabled at this time Article M- Approved with changes approved by the Energy Committee Article Q- Took no action at this time. Suggested referral to The Green Energies Act Article R- Motion made to refer to Finance Committee Article T- Voted to table and review B. Discussion-Discuss the use of 4 Wheel Drive Hybrids for use by the Police Department as Cruisers. References were presented by Barbara Gookin relative to towns in the USA who have done this including their detailed charts and comparison analysis of gallons saved for shifts etc. Action: 1. Assign research projects to Energy Committee members to consult the Towns Mentioned in the articles and ask them questions that would be significant to Nantucket’s climate, sand, roads, maintenance, off road use, insurance, etc. 2. Meet with Nantucket’s Chief of Police to present and discuss our findings and ask for his input. Sandra Welsh has volunteered to do this. C. Discussion-Printed Report from Worcester Poly Tech Students Action- Consider ICLE. Submit to Town manager C. Discussion- MTC Grant Application Status Action- Anne Kuzspa reported all was complete and a copy had been forwarded MTC and to the Town Manager. D. Discussion on The Energy Committee White Paper Action-Whitey Wilhauer reported no new updates at this time VII. Other Business A. The Town Manager has approved funding for two people to attend the workshop at MTC in Westborough, MA January 21, 2009. Financing Municpal Wind Projects is the topic. Whitey Wilhauer and Barbara Gookin will attend. Minutes of The Nantucket Wind Study Committee January 8, 2009 Continued B. Update on Bartlett’s Farm Wind Turbine Installation C. Carbon Emission Survey D. Notice of Sustainable Nantucket’s movie presentation at The Antheum on January 30,2009 At 7:00 PM. The topic is Electricity and Anne Kuszpa will lead a discussion following E. Carl Borchert handed out pamphlets regarding his research on The Green Energy Act F. The Grays Harbor Energy Company of Washington State is researching harboring wind turbines upon the ocean floor off the coast of New England according to an editorial in The Boston Globe January 4, 2009. Sandra Welsh presented copies of the article to The Energy Committee for our files and future reference. VIII.
