Lawler, Karen Alence, Rick Atherton I. Call to Order - The meeting was called to order by Chairman Gookin at 5:02 PM II. Approval of the Agenda - Unanimously approved II. Approval of the Minutes - There were no minutes to approve III. Public Comment - Non IV. Discussion and Action - • ACTION - Apply to the MTC ( Massachusetts Technical Collaborative) for a feasibility study by the CWC (Community Wind Collaborative ) toward the installation of a ARE442 (or similar) turbine at the high school. • ACTION - Review of The Nantucket Energy Study White Paper 3.2. Additional information was approved and added. • ACTION - Mike Burns and Sandra Welsh will attend the MREC (Marine Renewable Energy Center) meeting on the Ocean Energy for New England Conference in Fall River, MA. Oct. 6, 2008. • ACTION - Carl Borchert accepted the position of Energy Committee Archivist. He will be aided by all committee members. • ACTION - Prior to the presentation of Public Outreach Energy 101 by the MTC ( Massachusetts Technical Collaborative) we will contact local groups who may have concerns regarding turbine installation on Nantucket. The Audubon Society and local birding groups will be invited to attend the November meeting. Invitations to future meetings may be extended to local representatives from Marine and Wildlife groups, Marine Mammal Stranding, Maria Mitchell Association, Harbor Plan Implementation Committee, The Harbor Master, Board of Health, Non-Voting Tax Payers, School students, and others. • ACTION - Carl Borchert will be attending the Clean Power Now trip abroad from April 30 - May 8, 2009. Contact Carl for trip details. • DISSCUSSION - Teleconference on Clean Energy Choices for Low Income Homes presented by Massachusetts Technology Collaborative represented by Christy Howe, Green Buildings and Clean Energy Intern. DISCUSSION – Update on the Worchester Polytechnic Institute ( WPT ) students invited here beginning October 27, 2008 to work on certain aspects of the Nantucket Wind Energy project DISCUSSION - Esther Island site visit VI. OTHER BUSINESS . Chairman Gookin noted the unanimous approval by the Board of Selectmen at their meeting September 17, 2008 of the following A. Nantucket Wind Turbine White Paper 3.1 B. The Nantucket Energy Study Committee Mission Statement THE NANTUCKET ENERGY COMMITTEE MISSION STATEMENT: Report to the Board of Selectmen on energy related issues which may affect Nantucket residential, commercial, and municipal electric users Recommend policy or code amendments as appropriate Evaluate and explore potential energy production for Nantucket as needed Serve as a resource for information on renewable and sustainable energy technology, energy conservation, and energy related issues with relevance to Nantucket Island. VII: OTHER BUSINESS: Carl Borchert noted the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration weather station was installed at The Steamship Authority Dock. The meeting was adjourned at 6:15 PM.
