Minutes of the Meeting of 26 May 2010. The meeting took place in the Court Room, Town and County
Building, 16 Broad Street, Nantucket, MA 02554. Members of the Commission present were Rick Atherton,
Brian Chadwick, Michael Kopko, Patricia Roggeveen, and Whiting Willauer. Chairman Chadwick called the
meeting to order at 6:01 PM.

PUBLIC COMMENT
None.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES, WARRANTS AND PENDING CONTRACTS
Approval of Payroll and Treasury Warrants for May 2010. The payroll and treasury warrants for May 2010
were approved by unanimous consent of the meeting.
PUBLIC HEARINGS
Public Hearing to Consider Taking and Layout of Cliff Road Easements Pursuant to MGL Chapters 79 and
82 (Continued from 28 April 2010). Chairman Chadwick asked for a motion to close the public hearing in
order to take up the matter under the next agenda item. Mr. Atherton moved to close the public hearing; Ms.
Roggeveen seconded. All in favor, so voted.
Public Hearing to Consider Taking and Layout of Cliff Road Easements Pursuant to MGL Chapters 79 and
82 (Second Hearing). Chairman Chadwick opened the public hearing. Planning Director Andrew Vorce
explained that a voluntary easement has been received for the property located at 113 Cliff Road, which he
asked the Commission to accept. James Kenny of 111 Cliff Road said he met today with Transportation
Planner Mike Burns and he hopes to reach an agreement soon with the County regarding a voluntary
easement. Chairman Chadwick closed the public hearing. Mr. Atherton read a prepared motion (attached)
for the taking and layout of the Cliff Road bike path extension; Mr. Willauer seconded. All in favor, so voted.
Mr. Atherton moved to accept the voluntary easement granted by the owners of 113 Cliff Road; Ms.
Roggeveen seconded. All in favor, so voted.
Public Hearing to Consider Discontinuance of All or Portions of South Road (1933 Layout) aka New South
Road, Pursuant to MGL Chapter 82 (Second Hearing). Chairman Chadwick opened the public hearing. Mr.
Vorce explained that the concerns raised by the Nantucket Conservation Foundation have been addressed
and that the takings have since been divided into two sections, noting that tonight he is asking the
Commission to discontinue one section of South Road only. Chairman Chadwick closed the public hearing.
Ms. Roggeveen moved to approve the discontinuance of the north section of South Road as described in
the “Road Discontinuance Plan”, prepared by Blackwell and Associates, Inc., dated April 26, 2010
(attached); Mr. Atherton seconded. All in favor, so voted.
