Minutes of the Meeting of 17 April 2008 at 2:00 PM. The meeting took place at the 2 Fairgrounds
Road Conference Room, Nantucket, MA 02554. Members of the Commission present were Brian
Chadwick, Patricia Roggeveen, Rick Atherton, Allen Reinhard and Michael Kopko. Chairman
Chadwick called the meeting to order at 2:05 PM.
Joint Meeting with NP&EDC Regarding Hummock Pond Road Bicycle Path Design. Transportation
Planner Mike Burns provided a history of the proposed project, funding for which was approved in
2003. Mr. Burns noted that the purpose of this workshop is to discuss options for the layout of the
path with no specific action necessary at this meeting. In response to a question about ownership,
Mr. Burns stated that most of the property abutting the proposed layout is owned by the Hummock
Pond Homeowners’ Association and the Land Bank. It was noted that the alignment will be
determined by property ownership and endangered plants and, due to cost, the project will
probably be completed in six phases. Mr. Vorce emphasized that there will be eminent domain
takings required regardless of location. Mr. Kopko asked about the abutter notification process and
Mr. Burns responded that a set of plans has been mailed to all abutters. Town Manager Gibson
inquired whether there are any wetland issues and Mr. Burns responded affirmatively. Some
discussion followed as to segmenting the phases and there was general consensus that the
section closest to the schools should take top priority. Mr. Vorce inquired that, if there are budget
constraints, is there consensus to prioritize the proposed path from Town to Bartlett Farm Road as
the first phase. The Board responded affirmatively.
The meeting was unanimously adjourned at 2:40 PM.
