Community Preservation Committee
Tuesday, March 29, 2011
Washington Street Annex, Conference Room
Present: Barry Rector, Maria Zodda, Michael Kopko, Linda
Williams, Mark Voigt, Richard Brannigan, Ken Beaugrand
Call to Order: 3:15pm
Approval of Agenda: Motion made carries unanimous to include
discussion of sick pay for Neville Richen.
Guests: Susan Witte, and David Larivee observers
New Business: Discussion of medical status/rehab of Neville
ensued. Motion made, carries unanimous to pay sick pay for the
last 30 days after checking the Human Resources Policy for the
Town of Nantucket.
Old Business: Major discussion ensued regarding strategies/issues
for the upcoming ATM commencing 4-4-11. RB motion, BR
seconded retaining legal counsel to represent CPC. Points
addressed, why is this happening, can town counsel represent CPC
and the BOS on this issue, is this a legal issue or a policy issue, the
CPC/RFP process needs to be considered, the long standing
policies and procedures of the CPC need to be accounted for as
well. All spoke, many points raised and debated. Motion carries 5
for retaining counsel, M Kopko opposed, Ken Beaugrand
abstained. MK departed at 4:20pm to attend another meeting.
The committee agreed our legal counsel's prime focus will be to
support FinCom's motion on Article 70…."To Take No Action"
and to provide assistance with any legal questions arising out of
our fund allocation articles.
Discussion followed as what strategies to employ to get the
message out to the community to support the CPC.
Newspaper ad to run 3-31 issue costing $1,458.24 was approved.
Changes to draft copy where made, cost for inclusion in paper to
be paid by LW, who will be reimbursed for expense.
Plum TV infomercial running for 7 days costing $4,200 was not
approved.
Brochure for ATM handout was approved costing $445. Front/
Back text will be employed. Front copy will be the text used in the
newspaper ad. Major discussion ensued as to the copy for the back
entitled "Facts". Motion made and carries unanimous to form a
sub-committee (RB, LW, and MZ) to finalize copy for the back of
the brochure. The consensus was to attempt to streamline the initial
draft and make the copy as non-confrontational as possible.
Deadline for submission to Poets Corner is Thursday 3-31.
Adjournment: 5:15pm Motion carries. The next regularly
scheduled meeting is Tuesday 4-19-11 at 3:15pm
