COMMUNITY PRESERVATION COMMITTEE
Tuesday August 16, 2011 4:00pm
Community Room of the Public Safety Building, 1st Floor
4 Fairgrounds Road Conference Room
Nantucket, Massachusetts
Present: Ken Beaugrand, Richard Brannigan, Channing Moore, Robert
DeCosta, Linda Williams
Welcome/Opening Remarks: Mr. Beaugrand started the forum at 4pm by
welcoming everyone and stated that in the ten years that the CPC has been in
operation, approximately 25 million dollars has been allocated to various
projects.
Introduction of Guest Speakers: Mr. Brannigan thanked everyone for
attending the state mandated forum. He also thanked everyone as taxpayers
for contributing to the projects the CPC has been able to do. A list of the
various projects that have been and are being worked on was read. He also
reminded everyone that the deadline for new project requests is September
16, 2011 at 4pm.
The first guest speaker introduced was Gisele Gauthier of the Housing
Assistance Corporation based in Hyannis. She gave a wonderful power
point presentation of the Sachem’s Path development on South Shore
Road/Surfside Road. She explained: what the project was about, showed
examples of the proposed houses, working with as many local contractors,
botanists, surveyors, homebuilders, tradesmen, etc., as possible. She will
have two public forums for home buyers (i.e. workshops for people to
prepare to apply for mortgages). Ms. Gauthier hopes to start construction in
a year with the infrastructure first and then approximately twenty houses in
the center loop.
The second speaker was Mark Avery with the Restoration of the Greater
light. He explained some of the history of the house and gave a great power
point presentation showing almost step by step pictures of the renovation
and the completion pictures.
The third speaker was David Barham on the Unitarian Church
Restoration of the Interior. A very detailed explanation of the restoration
process was shown in the power point presentation. He told of how many
layers of paint they had to go through to get the original colors and details of
the walls and dome as well as layers of wall. The extensive research process
and attention to each detail to get to the original way it looked in 1846 was
very impressive.
The fourth speaker was Nash Strudwick of Park and Recreation on the
Nobadeer Farm Road Youth Fields. He explained that the Land Bank
sold the 30 acres to the Town for $1 and they expected to put in four fields.
The land is fenced in and protected, two fields should be ready for seed in
two weeks, there will be parking for two hundred cars, an asphalt driveway
(which will keep the dust down and the fields clean which is a problem at
the Delta Fields). The fields will be flat fields to be used for lacrosse and
soccer, not football.
Mr. Brannigan thanked all of the speakers for their presentations and
everyone else for attending. He asked for any other comments of which
there were none and again reminded everyone of the deadline date and time.
The forum ended at 5:23pm.
