Minutes
May 10, 2010
Present: Mickey Rowland, Dick Moran, Nancy Rezendes, Jeanette Topham,
Whitey Willauer, and Brenda McDonough
Absent: David Gray and Ellen Braginton Smith
The meeting opened with the members reviewing April’s minutes. Dick
motioned to approve the minutes, which Jeanette seconded, and the
remaining Commission members present unanimously approved this
motion.
Topics:
• Executive Session when Discussing Permits:
The Commission discussed going into Executive Session when discussing
parking permit applications. Brenda informed the Commission that according
to Massachusetts Open Meeting Law, the applicant has the right “to be present
during discussion or considerations which involve that individual.” So it was
suggested that whenever we receive a permit application, Brenda will contact
the applicant and tell her or him when the Commission will review the
application, and that they have the right to be present when the
Commissioners discuss their application.
Also, the members suggested that this new policy be stated on the application.
Jeanette motioned to adopt this policy, which Dick seconded, and the
remaining Commission members present unanimously approved this motion.
• Tom Hopkins:
Tom Hopkins will be visiting Nantucket in July and would like to attend our
meeting on July 12. The Commissioners thought that the general public
should be invited along with various town departments such as the Building
Department, HDC, Land Bank, and Conservation Foundation. Dick mentioned
that we should also contact builders, architects, engineers, and lawyers.
Mickey mentioned that it would be nice to have the meeting at Children’s
Beach bandstand.
• Other Items:
1. Jeff Dugan from the Massachusetts Office on Disability plans to attend one of
our meetings. Brenda will contact him and discuss which meeting he would
like to attend.
2. Nancy was wondering if access laws were the same for businesses and public
buildings.
3. Jeanette motioned to file a complaint with the AAB if the post office does not
file their variance request with the AAB, which Dick seconded and the
remaining Commission members present unanimously approved this motion.
