YORK STREETWALKING TRAILS LAWN Mill Hill Park User Matrix User Matrix Overall: ▪Improve ADA accessibility ▪Improve parking at most sites ▪Renovate/upgrade or build new support buildings ▪Install amenities such as drinking fountains, bike racks, benches etc. ▪There is an opportunity to incorporate natural play into the parks, similar to Cod Fish Park ▪Desire expressed for a bike playground ▪Some desire a “one stop shop” website for on-island parks and recreation related events ▪Parks/DPW need housing for staff General Observations, Wants, Needs Overall: ▪Desire to have car charging stations at parks/beaches ▪Vandalism, trash and dog waste are issues ▪Some sites could use security cameras ▪Storage space is needed at all facilities ▪Resiliency and sustainability will be important during planning General Observations, Wants, Needs Beaches: ▪Great assets to the community ▪Improve ADA accessibility ▪Improve, organize parking ▪Upgrade/renovate support structures ▪Improve drainage and runoff ▪Most are overused and access can be difficult ▪There are conflicts between users and abutters ▪Access, wayfinding and identification signage could be improved ▪Jetties Beach floods up to the tennis courts ▪Tennis and sailing programs work together General Observations, Wants, Needs Passive Recreation Sites: ▪Improve ADA accessibility ▪Improve parking ▪Upgrade/renovate support structures ▪The sites are not used or developed to their potential/capacity ▪Access and identification could be improved ▪Connect Consue Springs with the bike path ▪Improve access to sledding at Mill Hill Park General Observations, Wants, Needs Active Athletic Facilities: ▪Improve ADA Accessibility ▪Some sites have sufficient facilities (Delta Field) ▪Upgrade/renovate support structures ▪Improve turf condition at all athletic field properties ▪Improve drainage problems at some of the fields ▪There are scheduling conflicts for desired locations ▪Provide more places for the running population, indoor and outdoor ▪There is a desire for an indoor athletic complex ▪Youth soccer needs more space ▪Tennis needs more support facilities General Observations, Wants, Needs Active Athletic Facilities: ▪Jetties Beach access drive could be upgraded to be more inviting and identification signage could be improved ▪Playgrounds could be amended or renovated ▪Tom Nevers Park is in need redevelopment and is underused ▪There is a desire to restore the JFK bunker at Tom Nevers Park ▪Town may need a full-time events/activities/camp programmer ▪Identification signage could be improved General Observations, Wants, Needs ▪Overall quality of recreation facilities: about a 50/50 split between respondents describing overall quality of recreation facilities as outstanding/adequate versus needing improvement ▪General assessment that Tom Nevers Park needs improvement across the board ▪The amenities at Nobadeer and Fisherman’s Beach are identified as below average or poor ▪In terms of passive recreation sites, respondents identified Consue Springs needing the most improvement ▪45% of respondents believe passive recreation improvements should be added at Lincoln Circle or Hulbert Ave and the East Street Circle and 25% believe they should be improved with active and passive recreation ▪Additional indoor facilities (various activities) continue to top the list as the most pressing need
