HomeMy WebLinkAboutWoodard and Curran Monthly Update April 1, 2013_201401230916587763TOWN OF NANTUCKET, MASSACHUSETTS Monthly Update WOODARD & CURRAN 1 of 5 APRIL 1, 2013 Projects 223970 Madaket Wastewater Treatment Facility & Collection System Phase 1 - Preliminary Design Phase Progress Last Month: Met internally to conduct initial review of flow and load calculations Conducted site visit to download SCADA data from SCADA units at Surfside WWTF for flow data to understand maximum day and peak hourly flow conditions Delivered request for license extension from GSA for Historic/Archaeological to December 31, 2013 This Month: Continue hydraulic and treatment capacity analysis for Surfside WWTF and provide draft findings to Town Review Survey for FAA land from GSA Schedule Projected completion date – December 31, 2013 Financial Phase 1 Budget - $348,630 Spent - $ 186,175 Town Action (s) Required: Continue to support consultants’ investigations of operations and data gathering at Surfside WWTF 225139 CWMP Update Progress Last Month: Developed summer and winter flows and loads from updated study areas Posted background information for Sewer Planning Work Group (SPWG) on FTP site for its’ use Attended SPWG meeting March 4 to discuss project status, discussed approach to analysis of needs areas and the drivers for conducting the CWMP Update Developed stormwater component scope of work Town of Nantucket, Massachusetts Project Update April 1, 2013 WOODARD & CURRAN 2 of 5 Met with MassDEP to discuss discharge options for additional flows and loads Conducted visit with Barnstable County Health Director to discuss approved Innovative/ Alternative technologies for wastewater disposal with Nantucket DPW Director This Month: Finalize flows and loads Continue planning public outreach activities Begin stormwater study portion of the CWMP Schedule and conduct a site walk in Polpis Harbor area to identify areas where some Best Management Practices (BMPS) can be recommended to attenuate the impact of stormwater. This was postponed last month due to snow cover. Continue with CWMP Update report writing Schedule Projected completion date – December 2013 Financial Budget - $571,000 Spent: $ 228,235 Town Action (s) Required: Focus on and define SPWG charge and useful activities prior to public education program 225140 Phase IIB Sewer and Water Main Rehabilitation Project Progress Last Month: Construction began with mobilization of CC Construction on Monday, January 28, 2013. There have been a number of schedule changes due to weather conditions (no ferry service to deliver materials, snow on ground, flooding, and utility conflicts not anticipated based on record drawings and dig safe markings). Held weekly site meetings to discuss utility conflicts in the areas of construction Held monthly meetings to discuss changes in the project approach due to unanticipated field conditions such as unidentified utilities infringing on sewer and water main locations. Identified a major source of salt water intrusion to the collection system that will be repaired and to be added by change order to this project. This area was not identified previously during infiltration /inflow study by others. Construction occurring on Hussey St., Main St. (pipe bursting complete) Centre St., Quince St. (water main installation complete), Fair St. (pipe busting complete), North Water Street (pipe bursting complete), Whalers Lane (test pits dug in preparation for Town of Nantucket, Massachusetts Project Update April 1, 2013 WOODARD & CURRAN 3 of 5 pipe bursting): Full time Resident Project Representative on site during the construction project. This Month: Full time Resident Representative at site Monday through Thursday with contractor Attend monthly project meetings with contractor, Town Departments, utilities and other stakeholders. Answer Request for Information (RFI) questions from contractor Process Shop Drawings from contractor Postpone Broad St. construction until second construction season starting in October 2013. Construction scheduled to be suspended for Nantucket Daffodil Festival April 26th to April 28th. Construction will resume on April 29th with suspension from May 15th to October 14th. Schedule Projected completion date – December 2014 Financial Engineering Budget - $921,700 Spent - $378,679 Construction Bid - $3,494,320.87 Spent - $216,306 Town Action (s) Required: Continue to provide field support of Resident Project Representative on utility information 225839 Surfside WWTF Assessment and Upgrades Progress Last Month: Kicked off screening alternatives assessment This Month: Conduct analysis of screening alternatives, vactor truck unloading improvements, aeration header improvements and odor control exhaust improvements. Conduct corrosion control assessment in May Schedule Projected completion date – December 2014 Town of Nantucket, Massachusetts Project Update April 1, 2013 WOODARD & CURRAN 4 of 5 Financial Budget - $110,000 Spent - $2,209 Town Action (s) Required: Support Corrosion Control Sampling effort Continue to provide support to the Consultant for access to the WWTF and records. Additional Services Progress Last Month: Jetties Work. Dave Fronzuto received notification on March 25, 2013 that the US Army Corps of Engineers has received $10M for the reconstruction of the Jetties. The funding was provided under supplemental appropriation for Hurricane Sandy. This is great news and will benefit not only the safety of the boating public but will insure 24/7 deep water access, open shipping lane. Design and planning portion of the project by the Corps should begin in late April or May. Fertilizer By-Law. The Administration has requested that we assist them in creating a program to implement the Fertilizer By-Law. Nantucket has a letter proposal in hand for this work. This Month: Quarterly meeting update with Board of Selectmen will be in May Attend Town Meeting April 2 Meet with Natural Resources, Health and DPW to lay out framework for fertilizer management program Town Action (s) Required: Sign Contract for Jetties work. Sign Contract for Fertilizer By-Law support. Sign Contract for Yearly Water Quality Contract with SMAST. Setup public meeting to disseminate Water Quality 2012 results Amend SMAST MEP contract for additional model runs Town of Nantucket, Massachusetts Project Update April 1, 2013 WOODARD & CURRAN 5 of 5 What to look for this month: Construction to continue in Downtown area More visits to Surfside WWTF for Assessment Corps of Engineers site visits/preliminary design for jetties Fertilizer Management roll-out
