Call to Order: 3:39 p.m. A
Agenda: Mr. Rowland stated, by unanimous consent we are adopting the agenda.
Minutes: Ms. Topham motioned to approve the minutes, which Ms. Braginton -Smith seconded,
and all the remaining present Commission members voted in favor of this motion.
Topics: Elder Service's Van Service:
• Ms. Rezendes spoke about Your Island Ride and their reservation policy. One
must call and make a reservation before 2:00 p.m. the day before the
reservation and they do not make any exceptions to that rule. Ms. Rezendes
called at 2:45 for a pick -up the following morning and was told that she called
too late for a next -day reservation. Ms. Rezendes thinks that this service could
be more accommodating to the elderly people who depend on it. Ms. Rezendes
was wondering if they really needed to be so strict or can they be a little more
flexible with the scheduling when possible.
• Mr. Rowland said that it seems as if they do not budge from the rules that they
have in place.
• Ms. Topham mentioned that she is on an advisory board for the NRTA and she
will bring this topic up at their next meeting.
• Ms. Snell advised Ms. Rezendes to write a letter to Paula Leary and her boss
regarding this.
• Ms. Topham wondered if we wrote a form letter and had everyone who rides
YIR to sign it?
• Mr. Rowland suggested that we speak with Paula Leary and see if we can
discuss these situations with her.
• Mr. Rowland concluded that Ms. Rezendes and Ms. McDonough get together
and discuss Ms. Rezendes' concerns and forward those concerns to Paula.
Update: 3:57 p.m.
• The owner of Nantucket Cycle and Fitness, Lisa W isentaner, met with Mr.
Rowland and Ms. McDonough looking for guidance regarding a variance
request that she planned to submit regarding elevator access to the second level
of her new fitness studio. The Commission members were unable to review the
variance request because the AAB was reviewing the application eight days
prior to our meeting. Mr. Rowland supported her request for variance to install
a vertical lift instead of an elevator and Ms. McDonough sent the letter to the
AAB stating Mr. Rowland's support.
• Ms. McDonough told the Commission members that she was invited to be on
the Dreamland's Advisory Board. Ms. McDonough was very impressed by all
who were involved in the Advisory Board.
• Mr. Rowland stated that our Commission applied to be considered a Special
Municipal Employee and we were granted our request.
• Ms. McDonough spoke with a representative of the Summer Street Church and
they said that they will try to fix the lighting at both their front and side
entrances.
• The rear steps at the Salt Marsh are now striped.
• Ms. McDonough spoke with Bonnie at the Angler's Club and Bonnie said that
she would make sure that every step has contrasting striping on the lead edge
of the step.
• Ms. McDonough told the commission that one of the victim's of the Boston
Marathon bombing who lost one of her legs was coming to Nantucket in
August and needed a ferry reservation. Ms. McDonough contacted the SSA
and the SSA accommodated her gave her the reservation that she requested.
Awesome!
