Request From: brian butlerEmail: crookedcrowfeet@yahoo.comSource IP: 50.133.164.156 Address: 71 washington streetCity: nantucketState: MAZip: 02554Phone: Organization: In regards to the concom meeting last night i would like toenter a few remarks of my overall impression and thoughts onthe matter. i learned a lot about the what and why , and realize nowthe complexity of the issue we as a town are facing ... but istill do not see how not using the jute bags we have beenusing is not going to be just as effective in being atemporary solution until we can obtain and move the utilities and other services , and build a new road . it seems to bethe solution that has the least amount of permanent impact onthe bluff and has a better ability to nourish the beaches tothe north and south with the sand needed to keep with thenatural rate of erosion in check .The installation of a" temporary " geotube installation ,which may ... if i heard correctly ,become permanent if itworks or stay in place when the road is moved seems to me asa way for people on the bluff who have a financial interestin saving their houses from going through the regularpermitting process and getting what they want by means ofcoercion by threat of litigation . these two problems ; boththe road and the houses are separate and should remain so, because a clear delineation of our objectives separatingtown requirements from private property issues is goodgovernment . The jute tubes will allow the time for the town to move the road ,. the jute tubes will allow the time forthe private property owners to have their permits reviewed, discussed, appealed , and decided on. There is going tobe litigation any way the town decides to move on this issue
. i feel strongly we should not use the proposed geotubesas there is too many unknown factors b oth scientifically and in terms of long range costs/liability/ to the town ... we just don't have the answers weneed to use them.
