RESOLUTION
In recognition of the fact that private and public access as well as private and public
utilities and infrastructure, including public water and sewer, currently provided by Baxter Road,
a public way in the Sconset section of Nantucket, are currently threatened by erosion of Sconset
Bluff in certain sections running parallel to Baxter Road, it is hereby resolved that the Board of
Selectmen shall immediately direct the undertaking of all engineering and design services for
construction of an alternative roadway, including but not necessarily limited to surveys,
preparation of easement taking plans, and appraisals for the relocation of Baxter Road, and in
order to be fully prepared to provide for “springing easements” triggered by the Town and/or
County if there is a failure of Baxter Road, the criteria for which shall be established as soon as
possible with the intent that the Town and/or County can act promptly in the event of such
failure, to construct alternative access.
