Hi Jeff,
I would like to lend my support to the SBPF's efforts to save the 'Sconset Bluff. Though my own home is located on Sankaty Road and thus in no imminent danger,I still view the situation as extremely dire.
Certainly the specifics involved are well known by all parties concerned and need norehashing here. My only point is to emphasize what an incredibly iconic and historicstretch of coastline this is to not only 'Sconset, but also the island at large. Critics ofthe SBPF's latest proposal claim a likely failure. Yet history is always kinder to thosewho try and fail than to those who don't try at all. And should the ConservationCommission deny the SBPF it is worse than a failure to act--it is an absolutecondemnation of the 'Sconset Bluff, Baxter road, Sankaty Light, and all that theymean to the history of Nantucket. It would, in my opinion, be an unforgivablebreach of the public trust and one that would forever stain the island's longstandingreputation as a beacon of progressive thought and action.
