Nantucket Land Bank Commission
Special Meeting of July 25, 2019
Land Bank Meeting Room, 22 Broad Street
Nantucket, Massachusetts
CALL TO ORDER: 4:00 P.M.
PRESENT: Richard Glidden, Kristina Jelleme, Neil Paterson, Allen Reinhard.
ABSENT: John Stackpole.
STAFF PRESENT: Eric Savetsky, Executive Director; Jesse Bell, Assistant Director; Rachael Freeman;
Environmental Coordinator.
The seller of 174 Orange Street and 2 Milestone Road, Lucile Hays, and Inquirer and Mirror Reporter,
Brian Bushard, were also present at call to order.
1. CONVENE IN OPEN SESSION:
A. PROPERTY MANAGEMENT:
1. 174 Orange Street/2 Milestone Road — Property Planning Discussion: The Commission
met with Ms. Hays to get her input and brainstorm concepts for the property. Ms. Hays guided everyone
on a tour through the house and the land area immediately surrounding it. She indicated that parts of the
house were historic, as the farmhouse piece was built in 1890 and the attached barn was built in 1920. Mr.
Savetsky suggested that at a minimum, the newer section of the house where the best views are should be
removed, as well as the pool. Ms. Hays expressed her hope that the Land Bank would consider ways the
older structures could be reutilized on the property. Mr. Savetsky indicated that the driveway access
would need to be adjusted because neither of the current entrances were ideal from a public use
perspective. Further, there was the other house n the property to consider; the rotary improvements and
bikepath easement sought by the Town; a the future tie-in of the Ottison and Bachman properties which
would someday result in one contiguo park. Given all these considerations, Mr. Savetsky recommended
that the Land Bank hire a landscape chitect to assist staff and the Commission with both the short- and
long-range planning of this properp
ADJOURNMENT: Upon a m#on made by Commissioner Reinhard and duly seconded by
Commissioner Glidden, it was nanimously VOTED to adjourn at 5:30 p.m.
