HomeMy WebLinkAboutVisitor Services and Information Advisory Committee Minutes March 21, 2007_201402041408005509 Minutes of Visitor Services Committee Meeting Wednesday, March 21, 2007 NRTA Conference Room In attendance: Kate Hamilton, Director of Visitor Services, David Sharpe, Office Administrator, Kevin Dugan, Assistant Administrator, Charles Balas, Chairman, and Gene Mahon. Kate called the meeting to order at 3:08pm Kate started off the meeting by talking about putting up a sign at the Sconset Comfort Station. This sign would be similar in appearance to the one currently in use in front of the office at 25 Federal Street. Permission from the Sign Committee is currently being pursued. There was some discussion regarding the amount of the NVS budget that has been used thus far this year. Charles was also curious as to what percentage of our budget we actually used for all of last year. David reviewed the number of visitors, calls and placements and gave comparisons vs. last year for January, February and March year to date. Kate reviewed the individual roles that David and Kevin will be taking regarding lodging and restaurant information. David will focus on the restaurant side of the business and Kevin will take the lodging side. The office will also be staying in close contact with the Selectman’s Office regarding restaurant openings and closings, particularly with respect to off-season holiday periods as well. Kate also mentioned that we have current availability lists for Daffodil weekend and the Wine Festival. The committee was shown a “sample” of the new shopping bag that NVS will be providing to visitors in response to many requests over the course of the last few seasons. These will be introduced over Daffodil Weekend. Kate also spoke about the new bike signs that she is ordering from a different company. They will be an improvement over the previous signs and will also be fluorescent. Discussion ensued regarding the new web site and the fact that we will be able to track the number of “hits” and also possibly be able to use some form of a comment card for visitors to reply about their Nantucket experience. Gene Mahon asked what was going on with regard to Restaurant Week. It appears that at this time very little discussion has taken place between N Magazine and the restauranteurs. The meeting was adjourned at 4:00pm.
