Minutes of Visitor Services Advisory Committee Meeting
Tuesday, December 4, 2007
Land Bank Conference Room
In attendance: Kate Hamilton, Director, David Sharpe, Office Administrator,
Kevin Dugan, Assistant Administrator, Charles Balas, Diane Reis-Flaherty, Toby
Greenberg, Michelle Langlois and David Place.
Kate called the meeting to order at 2:10 pm.
Charles made a motion to waive the reading of the minutes of the previous
meeting and the motion was carried.
David Sharpe reviewed the figures for October and November as well as those for
Christmas Stroll. All of the numbers are up versus a year ago. He also reviewed how the
restaurants had done and their availability for the Stroll weekend. Most all of the
restaurants were at capacity and that the restaurant owners were happy. The food tent
appeared to be a little slower however and that could be attributed to the cold weather.
Kevin reviewed the lodging information for Christmas Stroll weekend and noted
that almost all of the properties were sold out with just a few exceptions, and most of
them only had single room availability.
Kate brought up the bathroom situation and stated that any money that would be
appropriated will not be available until July 2008. Therefore the bathroom updates will
not occur until after this coming summer.
Kate showed the new 2008 Travel and Lodging brochure and also explained the
new wallet card insert. Everyone in attendance was in agreement that the new brochure
looked great. Diane mentioned that she was going to keep a supply in her cab to give out
to her customers.
Kate stated that she had spoken with someone from the architectural firm that is
involved with the new airport. Hopefully we will have someone stationed at the airport to
assist our visitors. If this happens there would have to be a partnership with the Airport to
pay for the extra help. More on this as it unfolds. Kate has also met with some of the
advance people associated with the proposed new transportation center. At this point it is
still in the preliminary conversation stage.
The Christmas light decorating contest will be held again this year and is being
promoted by local media including television and newspaper and the Channel 22 Plum
ticker.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:55pm.
