Charles called the meeting to order at 3:05pm. Charles made a motion to waive the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting and the motion was carried. David went over the statistics for the year-to-date and reported that all of them are up substantially. Kate asked David to have the Chamber of Commerce compile the statistics on where their mailings of the T&L’s are sent to. David also went over the figures for the month of August to date and those are up substantially as well. David mentioned that the T&L’s are available in PDF version on the web and there were 134 of them downloaded in June. Charles suggested that maybe we could change the T&L to include some sort of a bike map showing all of the bike trails. Kate brought up the bathroom situation and the fact that she has requested $200,000 to upgrade them as they are in need of work in all areas. It has been several years since any major work has been done and much needs to be done. Kate also discussed the possibility of selling t-shirts to raise money to offset some of the costs of the fireworks. Louise suggested having a contest where people could design a t-shirt with a prize awarded for the best design. Kate spoke out about the problem this year with the ticket sales for the Garden Club and the fact that one of the people involved was very rude. This person was also very ungrateful and omitted Nantucket Visitor Services from the thank-you ad that was placed in the local newspaper. Charles suggested that a letter be written to the Nantucket Garden Club to make sure that they are aware of the situation. Kate posed the question as to whether or not a “policy” should be in place regarding the hotel vans in front of the Nantucket Visitor Services building. She wanted to insure that we have some kind of direction in the event that we receive requests from other businesses regarding the use of the NVS area. No decisions were made at this time. Michelle brought up the fact that she had received a call from Scott Thomas regarding the fact that approximately 60 people were left at the airport as a result of the cancellation of a Continental Airlines flight and that there were no rooms available on the island that night. Michelle asked if we should have some kind of plan in place in order to deal with these situations. It was discussed that Nantucket Visitor Services used to have a booth at the airport. Kate will write a letter to Al Peterson suggesting that the airport should look into having someone at the new terminal for information purposes. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 18, 2007. The meeting was adjourned at 4:00pm.
